ABSTRACT

GIVING EFFECT guava leaf extract (Psidium Guajava L) OVERVIEW OF RATS ON WHITE gastric
Histopathology (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar male induced mefenamic acid

Background : gastric mucosal damage can occur due to mefenamic acid administration. This happens
because of the use of drugs in toxic doses or long-term use. It takes an alternative material to prevent or
treat damage to gastric mucosa. Materials were selected that have anti-inflammatory properties, for
example, is the guava leaves. Guava leaves containing flavonoids. Where the pharmacological activity as
anti-inflammatory, antiulkus, analgesic and antioxidants.

Research purposes : To determine the effect of guava leaf extract (Psidium Guajava L) against gastric
histopathologic picture of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) male Wistar strain induced mefenamic acid.

Research methods : Laboratory experimental research design with post-test only control group. Animals
used were male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups (n = 10). Negative control group (k), the
treatment group (KP1) leaf extract of guava (Psidium Guajava L) dose of 400mg / kg treatment group 2
(KP2) mefenamic acid dose administration of 100 mg / kg and 3 treatment groups (KP3) Award guava leaf
extract (Psidium Guajava L) dose of 400 mg / kg and mefenamic acid administration a dose of 100 mg /
kg for 14 days. On day 15 the animal was sacrificed and gastric histopathologic examination. Data were
analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U.

Research result : Kruskal-Wallis test showed significant gains, Mann-Whitney U shows the results
differed significantly between negative control group and the treatment group 1 (p = 0.007) and
between negative control group and the treatment group 2 (p = 0.001), whereas among the treatment
groups 2 and 3 shows the results signifkan difference (p = 0.015).

conclusion: Giving effect of guava leaf extract lowers gastric lymphocyte cell density in the group of
experimental animals were given mefenamic acid.

Keywords : Psidium Guajava L, Mefenamic acid, lymphocytes.
