Appendices for Boiler

There are several steps to sizing furnace such as:

1. Calculate volume (V) of burning contact from heat release rate per unit
volume (𝑞𝑣 )
𝑚𝑐 𝐿𝐻𝑉
𝑞𝑣 = (𝑘𝑊/𝑚3 ) (X)
𝑉
Where,

𝑚̇ 𝑐 = Design fuel consumption rate, kg/s.

V = Furnace volume, 𝑚3.

LHV = Lower heating value of fuel kJ/kg.

2. Calculate area (A) of burning contact from heat release rate per unit cross
sectional area (𝑞𝑎 ). The maximum value for those variable can be shown
in the Table A.2.

(X)
𝑚𝑐 𝐿𝐻𝑉
𝑞𝑎 = (𝑘𝑊/𝑚3 )

3. Calculate a and b are width and depth of furnace, and Hb is the height of
burner region from heat release rate per unit cross sectional area (𝑞𝑏 ).
𝑚𝑐 𝐿𝐻𝑉
𝑞𝑏 = (𝑘𝑊/𝑚3 )
2 (𝑎 + 𝑏 )𝐻𝑏 (X)

thumb
