CHAPTER 2

• The life cycle of salmon


• Eggs are just eggs and salmon don’t have special eggs
EGGS and you can eat them
• Here is a picture:
• The have food attached to them and they don’t last
ALVEIN long because they aren’t experienced
• They are youngo salmon and other predators have
an easy target against them because they don’t have
FRY much experience and it’s hard to survive because
they don’t know how to get food and they don’t
usually have an adult with them.
• After fry they have learned more about the
environment around them by having experience
PARR from being a fry and they have a better chance of
survival.
• Smolt have the hardest part of there life because
SMOLT they have never swam to the ocean and the
Spawning Adults already know what it’s like.
• Adults are relived that they made it to the ocean,
ADULT but they still have to survive in the ocean and they
still can die but they are the least likely to die.
• Spawning adults have use all there energy to make it
SPAWNING up stream that once they there eggs they will
ADULT probably die after that and they are really really
really lucky to make it that far in their journey.

THE WATER

• First we tested how cold the water is and right as put the thermometer in the water I
saw on my iPad the temperature was really really really cold and went to 4 degrees
celcise.

• Blubber is in orcas to keep them warm in the Pacific Ocean and when I put the
thermometer in the water and it stayed warmer

THE PLACE

• What they do there:


• The salmon gets to the place from a stream, then it goes through a fish ladder that leads
them to a pool with a robot door that lets some salmon in and when the maximum
salmon are in the robot forces them to the back of the pool then a volunteer cuts a
female in half and a male in half to get the milt ( the fertilizer in males to fertilize the
eggs)
