Practice 03C-1 (After Class): Exposing Additional Fields for Contacts


Goals
 Add fields to Contacts pages

Time
20 - 25 minutes

Overview
In this practice, you will expose the standard "Date of Birth" field in the simplified pages.

Tasks
1. Sign in to the application using your assigned login.
2. Create and activate a sandbox:
a. Expand your username drop-down and select Manage Sandboxes.
b. If you have a sandbox already created, click in the row and set as Active.

c. If you do not have a sandbox already set up, do so now.


1) In the Manage Sandboxes window, click the New icon.

2) Set Sandbox Name = ApplCoreLongSB_EXTnn, where nn is your student


number.
3) Click Save and Close.
4) In the Confirmation dialog box, click OK.

5) Select the row for your sandbox; the easiest way to do this is click in the
Description field.
6) Click Set as Active.
7) Click OK in confirmation window.
8) At the top of the page, check for a sandbox tag.

3. Confirm that no "Date of Birth" field is visible for a contact in the simplified pages:
a. Navigate to Sales > Contacts.
b. Set Find = Bob.
c. Click the Search icon. .
d. Drill down on the Bob Witham record.

e. Along the left, click the Profile tab .


f. Verify that the Date of Birth field is not shown in Bob Witham's profile.
g. Click on Cancel.
4. Verify that the "Date of Birth" field is a standard field in the Contact object:
Important Note: Whenever you receive a requirement for a field, recommended practice is
to first check the object for an existing field that will satisfy the requirement before creating
new fields. In this particular case, you need to verify that the Date of Birth field exists.
a. Navigate to the fields of the Contact object.
1) Navigate to Tools > Application Composer.
2) Select Application = Common.
3) Expand Standard Objects.
4) Expand Contact.
5) Click Fields.
6) You can scroll or search for the field you are looking for.
Note that you can examine both Custom and Standard fields for this object.
b. In the local area click the Standard tab.
c. Verify that there is field named Date of Birth. You may need to scroll down.

5. Verify Date of Birth field on OOTB (Out of the BOX) Contact pages:

a. In the regional area, under Contact, click Pages.


b. Verify that the Simplified Pages tab is selected.
c. In the local area, notice the four regions:
 Landing Page: This is the page users will see when they first click the Contacts
icon in the simplified pages. It contains a summary table of contacts. If you wanted
to expose the Date of Birth field as a column on the summary table, you would
click Edit Summary Table.
 Creation Page Layouts: This is where you edit the simplified creation page.
Dynamic layouts allow you to have multiple layouts for the creation page. You will
learn more about dynamic layouts in a subsequent lesson.
 Details Page Layouts: This is where you edit the simplified details page. Similar
to the creation page, dynamic layouts allows multiple details page layouts.
 Summary Boxes: This is where you edit the info boxes that appear on the
summary page for a contact.
d. Under Creation Page Layouts, select the Default Layout record in the Create Contact
section.
e. Click the edit icon.

f. In the Create Contact section, notice the list of fields. Notice that Date of Birth is not
one of the listed fields.

g. Click Done.

h. Similarly check the details default layout. Notice that Date of Birth is not on this layout
either.

i. Click Done.
6. Create new Layouts and add Date of Birth field to the layouts:
a. Create new Contact Create Page Layout.
1) In the create section, highlight the default layout row and click duplicate

Layout to create a new layout from the default layout.


2) Set:
New Layout Name CreateLayoutnn where nn is your student
number

3) Click Save and Edit.


4) Next to Create Contact click the Edit icon.

5) Add the Date of Birth field to the new layout.


i) In the Available Fields box, scroll down to locate Date of Birth.
ii) Double-click Date of Birth to move it to the Selected Fields (right) box.
Notice that it is placed at the bottom of the list.
iii) You can use the up or down arrows to the right of the Selected Fields
area to reposition Date of Birth. For this practice you will leave it at the
bottom.

iv) Click Save and Close.


6) Click Done to close the Creation Layout: CreateLayoutnn Layout page.

7. Create new Contact Detail Page Layout:


a. Under the details page layouts > edit contact section, click Duplicate Layout

to create a new layout from the default layout.


b. Set:
New Layout Name DetailLayoutnn
where nn is your student number

c. Click Save and Edit.
d. Click the Profile Tab.

e. Click the Edit icon.

f. Add Date of Birth to the Selected Fields list.

g. Click Save and Close.


h. Click Done to close the Detail Layout: DetailLayoutnn Layout page.
8. Test your results:
a. Navigate to Sales > Contacts.
b. Set Find = Bob.
c. Click the Search icon.
d. Drill down on the Bob Witham record.
e. Click the Profile tab.

f. Verify that the Date of Birth field is now visible on this page, and is editable; that is,
you can type in it and there is a calendar control next to it.

g. Click Cancel.
h. Create a contact and test the results:
1) On the summary page, click the Create Contact button.
2) Verify the Date of Birth field.

3) Click Cancel.
9. Exit the sandbox.
10. Sign out of the application.
