Empty Bowl Dinner
Event Fact Sheet

What: PIHN’s Empty Bowl Dinner is the organization’s signature event organized annually to raise funds for
PIHN families and to generate awareness about family homelessness in Philadelphia.

Area restaurants and bakeries donate hot soups, breads, desserts and beverages for an all-you-can-
eat feast for this family-friendly event. Hand-made ceramic bowls are donated by local potters for
attendees to select, use and keep as a souvenir-reminder that every night in Philadelphia, homeless
families are at-risk of going without a meal.
Held just weeks before Thanksgiving, the Empty Bowl Dinner is suitable for all ages. The dinner
includes live entertainment and fun activities for children. Tickets are available for a donation of
$25 for adults, $10 for students and children 12 and under.

Proceeds go directly to support for PIHN and the advancement of its mission to address and prevent
family homelessness. The event is coordinated by staff and volunteers and last year attracted over
1,200 patrons.

Who: The Empty Bowl Dinner draws support from Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks Counties. Guests
and volunteers include:

People of all ages, faiths, and income levels

Residents of the Mt. Airy, Germantown, and Chestnut Hill communities
Foodies and lovers of art and pottery
Community activists, clergy, college students and other concerned citizens
A reunion of formerly homeless guest families

When: Wednesday, November 20th, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Where: United Lutheran Seminary Brossman Center, located at 7301 Germantown Avenue,
Philadelphia, PA 19119
