Table Q1 Outdoor air supply requirement for comfort air-conditioning.

1. Determine the minimum

fresh air requirement of an
air-conditioned classroom in
a secondary school, given the
following information:
– Class room dimensions = 10
m (L) x 12 m (W) x 3m (H)
– Maximum Occupancy = 42
people
– Refer Table Q1 for Fresh Air
requirement
Solution
• Area = 12 x 10 = 120 m2
• Fresh air requirement, reference Table Q1; using Primary School.
• Fresh air requirement @2.8 l/s per m2 = 2.8 x 120 = 336 l/s
• Fresh air requirement @10 m3/h per m2 = 10 x 120 x 0.277778 = 333.3 l/s
• Fresh air requirement @4.2 l/s per person = 4.2 x 42 = 176.4 l/s
• Minimum fresh air requirement = 336 l/s
Q2
(a)Provide a fully labelled schematic diagram of anyone of the
following chilled water system:
i. Air-cooled Chilled Water System Or
ii. Water-cooled (with cooling tower) Chilled Water System.

Question
• A process plant requires a total cooling load of
3300 kW. A chiller capacity of 3517 kW and
power input 650 kW was selected for the
plant. Determine:
– Chiller Efficiency
– COP
Solution
• Chiller capacity = 3517 kW = 1000 Ton
• Power input = 650 kW
• Chiller Efficiency = 650/1000 = 0.65
• COP = 3,517/650 = 5.4
