5.3 Measuring way
Hybrid Fiberoptic Sensors for torsional vibration measurement is to be installed at the
Flywheel. Then the signals of torsional vibration will be sent out from the sensor to be
analyzed by Torsional vibration analyzer and computer to obtain test results. At the normal
Condition of main engine, test measurement is to be done for each rpm within main engine
speed range beginning from the lowest speed 650 rpm down to the highest speed 1600
'pm, Main engine speed range close to the critical speed has to be sectioned for
Measurement about 1RPM, others range are about 5Orpm.

5.4 Test results
According to the analysis by computer, we got the vibration ampl. at flywheel of main engine in each
revolution. In the 3D-Harmonic-Speed curve, the amplitude of 1.5 order is obvious.

5.5 Conclusion
As shown by the test results, normal operation, in the propulsion system, there is not critical speed
obviously. The torsional additional stress of propeller shaft and intermediate shaft are all lower than
“ABS” allowable level for continuous running 1.. So, the torsional vibration in normal condition (650 -
1600 r/min) are satisfactory, any barred speed range is unnecessary.
