GRADE 4 SUMMATIVE TASK (Unit 3)

EXPLORER ACTIVITY – ON 19/11/2019

By now you all have learnt about many explorers, so now its time to create a lapbook
of your favourite explorer(modern or old age explorer). Each section of the lapbook
will contain different information about your explorer. The detail of each section is
mentioned below.

Title page – This is the cover of your lapbook. This should include an illustration that
shows things you learned about your explorer and a picture of your explorer. You can print
a picture from the internet of your explorer but the rest should be drawn by you.

Section 1 – Biographical facts – This section should include birth and death dates, where
the explorer is from, his life growing up, marriage, children, any other jobs the explorer did,
cause of death, etc. This should be written in paragraph form.

Section 2 – Exploration facts – This section should include facts about the person’s
exploration (where they traveled to, what they found along the way, difficulties they may
have encountered, the significance or importance of their exploration.) This should also be
written in paragraph form.

Section 3 – Timeline – This section is for a timeline. The timeline should include at least 5
important events from the explorer’s life. It should include at least two pictures drawn or
printed from the Internet pictures.

Section 4 – Map – Include a map of your explorer’s route of exploration. Make sure it
includes a title, compass rose, map key, and labels with the route drawn.

Section 5 – 2Cs – a) Connections (connections to things you have learned about,

connections to your life or the world), and b) Changes (What changes did the explorer go
through and what changes happened because of this explorer).

Section 6 – Fun Facts – Write a few fun facts about the explorer.

Bibliography – This should be on the back of the lapbook. At least 2 sources have to be
used and listed.

****The students can make the lap book at home creatively, but all the contents will
be completed in class. The layout of all the writings can be practiced at home.
