INTRODUCTION

NID offers professional education programmes at under graduate and post graduate
level with five faculty streams and 18 diverse design domains

There is a heavy inclination towards science and technology, which has already
grown substantially enough to produce qualified individuals. With a literacy rate of
around 94%, there is a need for design related courses for youngsters with a flair for
design. The current trend is for students to attend colleges in cities like Bangalore,
Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Being the capital of the state, it has been
picked as Mangalapuram, Trivandrum, as an ideal location for the first design school
of the state.

Graduate Diploma Programme in Design(GDPD): 4 year program offerered with

AIM
The aim is to create a first design school in capital city of Kerala with all facilities offering
graduation and post-graduation courses.

OBJECTIVES
To create environments of interaction – indoor and outdoor
To provide a campus with design related courses for youngsters with a flair for design.
It aims at giving the students giving a space to experiment and a place for inspiration.
Provide space for exhibiting art to the public

FEASIBILITY
There are more than 700 colleges for higher studies in Kerala but not a single college
dedicated to design education
construction. This is an ideal location for an institutional building as a lot of development is
happening in this region of the city. Being the capital of the state, it has been picked as
Mangalapuram, Trivandrum, as an ideal location for the first design school of the state.

SCOPE
The scope here to help the students to give an open environment and well defined campus
through the first design school in Kerala.

LIMITATION
I have limited to detail only the three departments ie: Industrial, multimedia and textile
design departments.

SITE SELECTION
Site is in Mangalapuram, Trivandrum which is about 22 km from Trivandrum city. It is
located on highway NH 66. It is adjacent to the Techno city, which is currently under
construction. This is an ideal location for an institutional building as a lot of development is
happening in this region of the city. Being the capital of the state, it has been picked as
Mangalapuram, Trivandrum, as an ideal location for the project.
