Chapter-1
1.1 IKRC Competition Objective
IKRC challenges teams of university undergraduate and graduate students to
conceive, design, fabricate, develop and compete with karts that are solely developed
by student teams.

To give teams the maximum design flexibility and the freedom to express their
creativity and imaginations. There are very few restrictions on the overall vehicle
design. The challenge to teams is to develop a vehicle that can successfully compete
in all the events described in the IKRC Rules. The competitions themselves give
teams the chance to demonstrate and prove both their creativity and their engineering
skills in comparison to teams from other universities in India.

Vehicle Design Objectives for the purpose of the IKRC competition, teams are to
assume that they work for a design firm that is designing, fabricating, testing and
demonstrating a prototype vehicle for the non-professional, weekend, competition
market.

The vehicle should have high performance in terms of acceleration, braking and
handling and be sufficiently durable to successfully complete in all the events
described in the IKRC Rules.

Each design will be judged and evaluated against other competing designs to
determine the best overall car.

1.1.1 Good Engineering Practices

Vehicles entered into student karting competitions are expected to be designed and
fabricated in accordance with good engineering practices.

1.2 Rules and Organizer Authority

1.2.1 Rules Authority
The student karting Rules are the responsibility of the student karting Rules
Committee and are issued under the authority of the INDIAN NATIONAL
KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP. Official announcements from the student karting
rules committee shall be considered part of, and shall have the same validity as, these
rules.

1.2.2 Validity of Rules

The student karting rules, regulation and restriction will be same throughout the end
of event, if any changes made in rules will be announced to all participating teams
through the mail and will be posted on official website.

1.2.3 Rules Compliance

By entering a STUDENT KARTING competition, the team members of the team as
individuals, faculty advisors and other personnel of the entering university agree to
comply with, and be bound to the rules and all rule interpretations are procedures,
issued or announced by the IKRC Rules Committee and the other organizing bodies.
Any rules or regulations pertaining to the use of the competition site by teams or
individuals and which are posted, announced and/or otherwise publicly available and
are incorporated into the IKRC Rules by reference. All team members, faculty
advisors and other university representatives are required to cooperate with, and
follow all instructions from competition organizers, officials and judges.

1.2.4 Participating in the Competition

Registered Teams, team members as individuals, faculty advisors and other
representatives of a registered university who are present on-site at a competition are
considered to be participating in the competition. For any reasons, the registration
fee is not refundable.

1.2.5 Understanding the Rules

Teams, team members as individuals and faculty advisors, are responsible for
reading and understanding the rules in effect for the competition in which they are
participating.

1.2.6 Right to Impound

engine. It should be made in such a manner that driver’s body parts are not affected
by the engine heat at any time during all conditions. There should be no opening
from driver area to engine compartment via firewall. Only small openings can be
provided for the passage of wiring, accelerator cable, clutch cable, brake lining and
these openings must be properly covered using cromets. There should be minimum
2-inch clearance between the firewall and the engine. Only metallic firewalls are
permitted. Firewall should have minimum wall thickness of 0.7 mm in case of mild
steel and a wall thickness of 4 mm in case of aluminium.

2.8 Floor Closeout

Floor panel must withstand the forces exerted by the driver during static and dynamic
conditions and should not allow any debris on the to enter the driver area. Floor panel
must be mounted below the chassis tubing and should be securely attached to the

when there is any failure or sudden loss of hydraulic pressure in the master cylinder.
The pedal over travel when the brake fails and hits the BOT switch and the switch
kills the engine.

Repeated actuation of the switch must not restore power to these components, and it
must be designed so that the driver cannot reset it.

2.16.2 Brake Light

in such a way that the Driver’s field of view is not obstructed in Driver’s seated
position.

2.20 Chains guards:

Exposed high-speed final drivetrain equipment such as Continuously Variable
Transmissions (CVTs), sprockets, pulleys, belt drives, clutch drives and electric
motors, must be fitted with scatter shields. The final drivetrain shield must cover the

innovation report during the innovation round.

3.3 Business & Cost presentation:

The Objectives of the Business presentation are to:
Teach participants about the factors that need to be considered when a company
embarks on development of a new product. These include: cost; identification of
market and likely sales volume; profitability; the key features applicable to the
selected vehicle concept and target market size.

Ensure teams develop the concept of their entry with all of these aspects correctly
considered, from the outset.

Ensure that all three static events are approached with a single common concept and
presented to each set of static judges in the same manner.

Ensure that participants gain experience in producing a business case and balancing
potentially conflicting attributes.
