Theatre Games by Clive Barker

Actor, writer and director Clive Barker wrote the book Theatre Games to show a new
approach to drama training. The book has played a huge contribution to the art of theatre
and reveals many new techniques. All of the games described within the book are to enable
anyone involved in acting to develop their technique without inhibition or artificiality. As an
actor, Clive Barker was a member of Joan Littlewoods Theatre workshop where he got most
of his inspiration from. In relation to our group, the main concept we worked on from Clive’s
Theatre Games was the mind and the body. We felt this was the most useful for helping
everyone in the group to prepare and get themselves into character. One game we focused
on was walking around the space and playing different animals of our choice and using the
numbers 1-10 to portray the intensity.
