ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In doing this study, the researchers encountered many problems, troubles and re

visions that wrenched them to burst and disencumber. Hence, as time goes by, the rese

archers pondered upon their need to accomplish and pursue this study for the end purp

ose of passing their Psychology Course. At the beginning, the researchers were confus
ed and oblivious about the necessary subjects to be studied. Yet with the help of dear fa

milies, friends and mentors, the researchers had assured the success of the study.

First, the researchers give thanks to God for bestowing them patience, wisdom a

nd gift of knowledge in doing this study.

ABSTRACT

The research entitled “Factors Why Junior and Senior Students Do C

ut Classes” was constructed by the researchers for they wanted to discern

and take deep explorations concerning the behaviors of different individuals

, specifically the junior and senior students who manage cutting classes an

d how such deed affects their academic performance.

.
CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Educational institutions are not only for mental sacrifice and mental q

uotient feedbacks but also for correcting, disciplining any forms of behavior

al, moral, and social problems being faced by the students. The researcher

s are very certain and confident to say that students’ problem has enough p

eriod of growth and development. This development starts at the comfort of

their homes and families. Thus, it results to that of the school institutions b

ecomes the “scapegoat” for their problems. Consequently, professors, teac

hers, and school administrators have to face and shoulder all sorts of probl

ems from their respective students. Such is considered as the most burden

some for any school teachers and staff.

The researchers all know that this is the stage where most of the stud

ents are beginning to be curious about life. This is where they start came o

ut from their “comfort zone”, explore life and make their own decisions.
Every time a student cuts class, it’s inevitable that they are also cuttin

g their education. It is said that going to school is like a having a job, they a

re mostly alike in such reason that you get paid with knowledge.

An effective education abets everyone and aids them in getting a job

worthy of their hard work. Just as a saying goes, “with a good job, you’ll ha

ve a good life, but by having a better job, you’ll have a better life.”

Having a suitable and profitable job will not only benefit you, but also

your family in which in turn will help them carry out a bountiful life.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The sole purpose of the study is to determine the reasons why junior

and senior students cut in their class.

Researchers would like to know what triggers the students to do cutti

ng classes. Also, to be abreast regarding the satisfaction the students get.

As well as to know how the problems affect the academic performance of t

he said respondents.

The respondents chosen are the 3rd and 4th year students of Our

Lady of Perpetual Succor College.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. What kind of attitude/behavior they have?

2. Are they aware to the consequences when it comes to their grade?

3. Do they have plans to change their attitude regarding the said problem?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is significant to:

A. Students

This research is vital to students especially to those who are in tertiar

y level. It will provide information regarding the disadvantages of cutting cl

asses. The study also offers different factors on how the students are being

encouraged to do cutting classes. Students must be aware that this action

s must be taken seriously.

B. Parents and Guardian

This study would also be beneficial for parents in order for them to kn

ow how their sons/daughters behavior at school. Likewise, this would give t

hem the opportunity to help guide their sons/daughters in dealing with probl

ems that may affect their performance especially with regards to their acad

emics.

C. Future Researchers

The conducted studies will further open doors for future researchers t

o refine and expand studies in relation to cutting classes. This may serve a

s a source of information about what provokes students to cut class and the

effects on an individual’s academic performance.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

The study focuses on identifying the factors concerning why junior an

d senior students do cutting classes. The study involved 20 students/ partici

pants in both sexes.

The study was conducted in Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College, a

private and non-sectarian institution located at Gen. Ordonez Street, Conc

epcion Marikina City. The study was conducted on the of school year 2014-

2015.
RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

The hypotheses based on the researchers are the following:

1. Most of the participants who practiced cutting classes are males ranging

from ages 18-19 years old.

2. Peers’ influence and boredom are the two main factors why the selected

students do cutting classes.

3. Cutting classes might affect the academic performance of a student.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
RECOMMENDATIONS

A. Students
To the students, that they may be knowledgeable enough in coping a

nd managing their own possible reasons on why they are cutting classes. I

n addition, this study is recommended, for them to be well aware of their ac

ademic performances and for them to concentrate on their studies.

B. Parents and Guardian

To the parents and guardians, whom are the most involved and salie

nt element in this case, so that they may exert more effort on knowing the d

ifferent factors on what encourages their child to do such practice.

Good communication skills are needed for both parties to address the

problems that cutting classes might bring.

C. School’s Administration

The study is also recommended to the school’s administration, so that t

hey would be well aware of such practice that is occurring within the instituti

on and constitute effective solution regarding the said problem.
