Task Five- Creating an MLA Formatted Essay in Word

Jarrod Torkelson

Scott Straub

EDUC-150 - 001W

10 September 2019

Task Five:

It its current, eighth version, MLA format is a page layout/format developed by Modern

Language Association with the intention of aligning education, research, and scholarly papers.

By making papers more uniform, it makes it easier for readers to understand the formatting, and

more easily get into the paper rather than spending time on figuring out what they are reading.

As a student, I really appreciate when instructors specify what format they want. It allows

me as a student to make sure I frame my paper in the best manner for the assignment in question.

I can also see how the specific format would speed up grading from a teacher's perspective. The

breakdowns of the sections help to keep the reader on task and forces the writer to pay additional

attention to where specific portions of the paper are located and how they interact with the paper.

Task Ten- Lesson Plan

Teacher(s): Mr. Torkelson

Date:9/11/19
Subject / grade level: Automotive Technologies
Materials:
 Eye protection
 Hearing protection
 Nitrile gloves
 Metal fasteners
 Hand tools
 Thread cutting tools
State Standards: 3.1.6 Perform common fastener and thread repair, to include:
 Remove broken bolt
 Restore internal and external threads
 Repair internal threads with thread insert

Lesson objective(s):
 Students will attempt to remove damaged fasteners and repair the threads on various
automotive components.
 At the end of the assignment, students will be able to identify the correct tools
necessary for proper fastener extraction.
Differentiation/Accommodation strategies to meet diverse learner needs:
 Students with reading difficulties will be assisted in research and reading associated
with the assignment.
 Fastener removal and repair can have many different levels of difficulty, this will allow
me to customize the lesson for each individual student.
ENGAGEMENT
 Being able to have both lecture, and hands on aspects of the assignment will help keep
them engaged in the assignment.
 What is the best way to prevent fasteners from breaking, or becoming seized in a piece
of hardware?
EXPLORATION
 The students will be actively drilling, taping, and extracting fasteners from various
automotive components.
 Big idea questions I will be using will include-
o What forces are in use in the given failed fastener?
o How can we overcome said forces?
o How can we prevent the failure in the first place?
EXPLANATION
 I will ask students for examples of times when they have had difficulties with fasteners,
anything from not being able to get a lid on, or off of a jar, to stuck fasteners on
anything else. From this, I will be able to give examples of specific issues, why said
issues happen, how we can avoid said issues, and how to resolve them once they
happen.
[Last Name] 11

 Higher order questions to engage students in the lesson

o What caused the fastener to cause us trouble?
o How could each example be avoided?
o Was it preventable?
o If so, how?
ELABORATION
 By physically touching, and engaging with a seized fastener, students will get a better
understanding of what obstacles they are facing when trying to remove fasteners.
 There will be a few different terms that will be brought up that may be foreign to
students, and we will discuss those terms as a class so that everyone has a clear
understanding of the vocabulary used during the lesson.
o Some terms that may be new to students are-
 Seized
 Stripped
 Rounded off
 Galling
 How is this knowledge applied in our daily lives?
 Having a broad vocabulary and being able to verbalize concerns are critical aspects of
being an adult. If a person needs to describe a specific concern to a service provider or
handy man, being able to accurately describe the concern can prevent unneeded work
and charges from a service company.
EVALUATION
 Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the subject matter in
multiple ways. This will include active participation in group discussions, along with
hands on demonstration of dealing with a variety of fastener situations.
 Students will need to show that they have thought about what caused the situation at
hand, what they can do to resolve it, as well as what could have been done to prevent it
in the first place.
