CASE STUDY ON

KERATOCONUS

OD (CALICUT)
● PATIENT NAME : SAFWAN ( P/1718/130257 )
● AGE : 25/MALE
● C/O : DIFFICULTY OF VISION FOR DISTANCE
● O/H : NO H/O OF SPECTACLES
● M/H : NO SIGNIFICANT MEDICAL H/O
● UCVA : 6/9 OU
● CYCLO AR : OD: -2.25 / -7.75 X 175°

OS: -2.00 / -7.25 X 170°


Why the patient is diagnosed as
keratoconus ?

● A 25 yr old male patient came to our clinic complaining of difficulty


of vision for distance and did not have any significant ocular
history.
● His UCVA is 6/9 (OU).
● The patients cyclo AR showed irregular astigmatism.
● Refraction was not possible as retinoscopy was showing scissor
reflex.
● So patient was advised to take topography and CCT.
● CCT revealed corneal thickness less than normal.

OD : 408 μm

OS : 412 μm

● Keratometry readings showed curvatures revealing severe


keratoconus.

OD : K1 : 45.75 X 180°, K2 : 52.0 X 90°

OS : K1 : 45.25 X 175°, K2 : 52.0 X 85°


This patients topography showed areas of inferior steepening.
● From the above investigations we concluded that this is a case of
severe keratoconus.
● Rx advice : C3R for OU.
