OBJECTIVE: TO ENABLE THE STUDENTS TO SYNTHESISE SIMPLE SENTENCES INTO A
COMPOUND SENTENCE.

CONJUNCTION

DEFINITIONS:

COMPOUND SENTENCE: A compound sentence consists of two or more co-


ordinate clauses joined by a co-ordinating conjunction such as:
and, but, or, for, so & yet or

by a correlative conjunction such as:


either…or, neither…nor, both…and &
not only…but…also

CLAUSE: A clause is a word group containing a subject and predicate.

CO-ORDINATE CLAUSE: A clause that is introduced by one of the co-


ordinating conjunction – most commonly and or but is called a co-ordinate clause.
