Subject: Regarding implementing guidelines on Nation Wide Sanitation Campaign

"Swachhata Hi Sewar'.
In continuation of this office letter nos. SSA/Peda/2019128482-29547 dated I 3l0gl20lg
and on the subject cited above

As you all aware that India is celebrating Bapu's l50th Birth Anniversary this year. Bapu,s
birth anniversary shall not only be Open Defecation Free but also shall lay a foundation of
150th
a
new revolution against plastic, by people themselves, throughout the country.
Hence, I have been directed to request you to implement the guidelines for making India
a
plalstic free country.
During this period from I't September,20lg to 27Ih October, 20lg,large scale citizen
engagement activities for awareness generation and community mobilization through
Sharamdaan,
clean &green drive, swachhata pledges, swachhata rallies etc. aimed at mass scale plastic
waste
collection and disposal.
A list of suggested activities to be undertaken in the various phases as mentioned below:
Phase- I Il "' September- 1't October, Presentation and Awareness
2019 generation
Phase-2 2no October.2019 Sharamdaan as mass
movement
Phase-3 3'o-27'n October. 2019 Disposal of collected plastic
wasteo leading to a plastic-
free Diwali.

It is pertinent to mention here that this entire period will be marked by various religious
festivals and cultural events such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Muharram, Durga poja,
onam, Dusherra,
Diwali etc.
There should be focused campaigns to ensure that all these festivals
are zero waste and
plastic free events. The underlying theme in all such events may be
the creation of a plastic Mukt
Bharat' These festivals and other public events and functions may be used for
spreadfing the
Plastic Mukt Bharat message to all segmnents of the society.

A list of activities that can be taken up with School Children to make schools,
suggested
neighbourhood, public events plastic free is as under:
I Declaring School Premises a "Plastic Free Zone" by putting up a display board on
wall
permanently. The display board should not be made of plastic.
