9-4-17 Lesson Objectives • At the end of the lesson, students will be able to buzz “Hot Cross Buns” on their mouthpieces. • Students will become more comfortable with the proper mouthpiece positioning on their faces. Lesson Procedure • Students will begin in class today doing simple power breathing exercises led by me, the teacher • After power breathing, students will break into their sections and practice putting the mouthpieces onto their faces in the proper way. The teacher will walk around and make sure everybody is doing this properly. • After mouthpieces look good, the students will remain in their sections and practice getting a good buzz through their mouthpiece. The teacher will demonstrate first, and then students will break again. • Next, the students will practice buzzing a particular pitch. A Bb will be given to them via the teacher, and they will match pitch. • Students will then put down their mouthpieces and the teacher will lead them through singing warm-ups, and matching pitch with their voice using the same Bb concert pitch. • Students will sing the melody of Hot Cross Buns • With lots of repetition, students will buzz the melody of Hot Cross Buns on their mouthpieces. Lesson Assessment • Using the last 10 minutes of class, the students will buzz the melody of Hot Cross Buns for the class in groups of three.
