TOPIC: “REFLECTION ON SUBJECT OF MENTAL HEALTH NURSING”

SUBJECT: MENTAL HEALTH NURSING

During my senior elective learning process I had an objective to conduct

a session for undergraduate nursing students. To achieve this goal my
preceptor gave me a chance to take a session. In order to fulfill my
objective I coordinated with principal Unique school of nursing Karachi
to conduct a session for undergraduate nursing students. After getting
permission from the principal I talked to one of the faculty from unique
school of nursing and agreed to conduct session on
psychopharmacology.
As planned I prepared the session with multiple strategies including,
power point presentation and videos. I shared the power point
presentation with my preceptor; she appreciated me and encouraged
me for the success of my session. Finally the 17 September 2015 I
conducted my session.
Before beginning of session I had fear and anxiety for coming in front
and delivering session for a large group of students. In prior to begin
session I organized the students in the class with help of faculty who
come to assess my session. I started my session by introduction myself
and discussed the objective of the session.
During the session I involved the students’ to read the slides and also
encourage them to ask question. The session went smoothly and
without any anxiety. I end my class by asking some question from the
student to evaluate effectiveness of my session. The students’’
response to my question related to topic showed that they have got the
required understanding from the session. At the end of session I got
feedback from students and as well from the teacher who was
assessing my session. The students and as well as teacher gave me
good feedback and I become happier when the teacher told his
students that he is a role model for you in future and he also wished me
to do best in future.
In conclusion, the teaching is not easy as we students think about our
teacher, it is a big responsibility and also to do work hard. As a beginner
in teaching I need to work hard and improve my skills by learning about
different teaching learning strategies, audit more classes of different
faculties and to get more exposure in teaching for experience. Finally, I
am very thankful to my preceptor who gave me a chance for this
wonderful experience in teaching.
