economic development and the creation of jobs.
Since 2012 the UK Government has been scaling up its economic development efforts
through CDC. In 2017, it passed an Act of Parliament to put more capital into CDC.
Recent progress This has enabled CDC to make more than $6Bn of impact driven investment since 2012 and
grow a portfolio with net assets of £5.8b. In 2018, these investments were helping businesses
support over 850,00 jobs, paying wages of $4.5 billion and taxes of $3.4 billion.
CDC has been investing in India for 30 years. helping build some of India’s most
successful businesses across a wide range of sectors. These have included Apollo
Tyres, Punjab Tractors, UTI (now Axis) Bank, IDFC and Glenmark Pharmaceuticals.
India remains a strategic country for CDC with a current portfolio valued at US$1.7
billion, in over 300 businesses across India. These businesses contribute around
US$1 billion annually in taxes to the Indian Government, directly employing
CDC in India around 400,000 people as well as many more in their supply chains.
In 2018 we announced our aim to invest a further US$1.7 billion in India and the
wider region over the next three years. We are focused on getting investment into the
states most in need of capital and into sectors that can strengthen local businesses
and communities.
CDC has offices in Mumbai and Bangalore with a team of 25+ people.
