DIET
Common dietary problems for Sabrina
o obesity
o high blood pressure
Poor nutrition can impair our daily health and wellbeing and reduce our
ability to lead an enjoyable and active life. It can contribute to the risk of
developing some illnesses and other health problems such as:
o being overweight or obese
o high cholesterol, high blood pressure
o heart disease and stroke
o type-2 diabetes, osteoporosis

A healthy diet simply means eating the healthiest foods

in moderate amounts and sticking to regular mealtimes. So,
here’s a healthy-eating plan. The plan helps you control your
blood sugar (glucose), manage your weight and control heart
disease risk factors, such as high blood pressure and high
blood fats.
Make your calories count with these nutritious foods.
Choose healthy carbohydrates, fiber-rich foods, fish and
"good" fats. During digestion, sugars (simple carbohydrates) and starches
(complex carbohydrates) break down into blood glucose. Focus on healthy
carbohydrates, such as: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, such as beans
and peas, low-fat dairy products, such as milk and cheese.
Eat heart-healthy fish at least twice a week. Fish such as salmon,
mackerel, tuna and sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which may prevent
heart disease. Foods containing monounsaturated
and polyunsaturated fats can help lower your
cholesterol levels. These include: Avocados, nuts,
olive and peanut oils. But don't overdo it, as all
fats are high in calories.
It’s never too late or too early to enjoy healthy
eating. Have regular meals, serve a variety of
healthy foods and snacks, be a role model by
eating healthy yourself, avoid battles over food and try to involve family in the
process.

EXERCISE

There’s some common exercise problems for Sabrina. Such as:

o Paraplegia
o Obesity
Physical inactivity affects your entire body, both inside and out. Not
getting your recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day can lead to many
disorders, including:
o muscle atrophy
o osteoporosis
o blood clots
o type 2 diabetes
o depression
o a weakened immune system
o Constipation

Your heart is a muscle, and it gets stronger and healthier if

you lead an active life. It's never too late to start exercising, and
you don't have to be an athlete. People who
don't exercise are almost twice as likely to
get heart
disease as
people who are
active.

With paraplegia, you will have full

control over your head, neck, shoulders, arms,
and hands. This means that you can perform passive range of motion leg
exercises on your own! Your legs may not be able to exert any energy, but your
arms definitely can.
Passive range of motion exercises are exercises that don’t require you to
exert any energy because another force is moving your body for you. They’re
ideal for people with paralysis because even though they can’t control the
movement, the movement itself stimulates the muscles, expands joint range of
motion, promotes better circulation, and improves metabolic rate.
