METHODOLOGY

This research applied a triangulation method to carry out the investigation. Data were collected using
qualitative, observation and descriptive methods. The study applied direct or passive observation in the
investigation. In passive observation the researcher has no influence on the students. The qualitative method
was used to collect and analyze data. In research it is better to use both eyes rather than one. Research further
indicates that qualitative methodology is very naturalistic and conducted in real time with the investigator in
control (Bogdan & Biklen, 2003; Golafshani, 2003). Faryadi, 2010).
DATA COLLECTION PROCEDURE

The instruments for the study were administered by the researcher. All the data in the questionnaires were also
personally collected by the researcher. The whole process took one week.

Data Collection Data was collected for this study through the use of interview to Senior high school students
throughout the section google with the written permission of the teachers, and parents and with the signed
consent of the students themselves. In two separate groups, students received parent permission forms to take
home for their parent(s) to review. The student parents were asked to sign and return the permission forms only
if they wished to opt-out of their children taking part in the survey. Once back in class, students were asked to
sign their own informed consent forms documenting their voluntary participation in the interview. The
respondents were asked to identify their gender, ethnicity, age, grade, and section order to categorize their
responses by gender, ethnic and maturity level. The survey was administered, and then the students were given
a short presentation on bullying and cyber-bullying. The students were given the cyber-bullying presentation
after the interview in order to provide them with facts and prevention/intervention strategies related to bullying,
but without skewing the results of the survey.
DATA ANALYSIS

The focus group component of the study was used to provide in- depth information regarding student’s
perceptions, feelings, and experiences with cyberbullying, which may have been lost using primarily
quantitative methodology. Data was collected through informal note taking, and was carefully analyzed by each
of the researchers to help maintain consistency and reliability. All responses to the focus groups items were
organized into one document that separated participants’ responses according to gender. Responses were
carefully read by each researcher in order to find major themes and/or concepts, and quotes from participants
that reflected major themes and/or concepts were noted. Concepts, topics, and/or phrases that reflected the
research questions were highlighted and grouped together. Themes and/or concepts were found while
examining the items individually, as well as amongst all of the items combined together.
Research design

Phenomenology can be defined as a philosophy and method of inquiry and has become an effective method of
inquiry for qualitative research and it should continue to thrive as there is an abundance of phenomena that have
yet to be discovered. The goal behind utilizing this method of inquiry is to explore the essence of an individuals
lived experiences of a particular phenomenon.

Phenomenology has become an effective method of inquiry for qualitative research and it should
continue to thrive as there is an abundance of phenomena that have yet to be discovered. Some ideal topics for
phenomenological research could include significant changes in life course and transitions, creation and/or
disintegration of relationships, emotions or sensations, development and significance of identities, or even
mundane and overlooked experiences. Researchers often utilize phenomenology in the social and human
sciences fields of study in order to gain a more in-depth understanding of the defining parameters of a profound
experience and when traditional, scientific, or behavioral methods of inquiry will not suffice. Phenomenology
serves as a method of inquiry that offers insight for an individual’s interpretation of an experience under certain
conditions. Phenomenological research is “discovery orientated” and generally does not aim to justify particular
theories, hypotheses, or speculation.
