Eligibility Criteria
Candidate must complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December, of the year of admission to the MBBS
course.

The candidate should have passed in 10+2 or equivalent qualification with English, Physics, Chemistry and
Biology/Botany and Zoology with minimum marks as per MCI norms.

General Information
About College:

The Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital and College of Nursing is in short known
as the BJMC. This is located in the education hub of Pune, in Maharashtra. This college is administered by the Government of
Maharashtra, and sits next to the Sassoon General Hospital. The hospital was founded by Byramjee Jeejeebhoy back in 1878,
but the college came up only in 1946. The BJMC is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), located
in Nashik. This ensures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission).

The academics here is divided into several units. At the UG level, of course, the main course is the MBBS, which is the essential
qualification to all aspiring doctors. There are a far greater number of options at the PG level. The entire academics here, is
run by the several departments. The Pre- Clinical Departments are in Anatomy, Physiology and in Bio Chemistry. The Para-
Clinical Departments include the areas of- Micro Biology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Pharmacology and in
Pathology. The maximum number of areas line under the Clinical Departments. These may further be broken into Medical
Specialities. These are for the areas of General Medicine, Paediatrics, Radiology, Psychiatry, Anaesthesiology, Tuberculosis &
Chest Diseases and in Skin & V.D. There are also Medical Super Specialities for Cardiology, Neurology and Nephrology.

Yet another here at the BJMC in Pune are the Surgical Specialities. This includes the areas of General Surgery, Orthopaedics,
Ophthalmology, ENT and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The areas of Neuro Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery,
Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery and for Uro- Surgery. In addition to all these medical fields, some allied services are also
given much importance here, at the Pune- based Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College and Sassoon General
Hospital and College of Nursing. The areas covered in this are – Dentistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Eye Bank, Blood Bank,
Disaster Management and for Bio Medical Waste Management. There is also a separate Institute of Nursing Education.
Provisions are also on for organ, body or kidney donation. Work is also being done for HIV Aids.

Admission to the various courses at the UG level is via the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). At the master’s level, it
is via the NEET PG. Research is also a very important area at the BJMC. Several guest lectures are also conducted on campus.
Special occasions like the World Hepatitis Day are commemorated in with separate events. This has also led to the college
getting ranked high up across platforms. The Careers 360 magazine for instance has ranked the BJMC at 34th all over India
among medical colleges.

The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. There is a sports field where cricket and
football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium
is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment.
Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the
physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and
academic purposes. One of the biggest advantages for aspiring medical and healthcare professionals to enrol at the BJMC is
that a hospital is attached right next to the medical college. This allows the students to get hands- on experience observing,
practitioners among doctors, nurses, surgeons and administrators.
