1.0 DEFINITION OF ENERGY AUDIT

An energy audit is an inspection survey and an analysis of energy flows for energy
conservation in a building. It may include a process or system to reduce the amount of energy
input into the system without negatively affecting the output. In commercial and industrial
real estate, an energy audit is the first step in identifying opportunities to reduce energy
expense and carbon footprint. This audit is very important in order to know our daily usage of
electric doesn’t matter in house or shop lots. This audit will be done by getting the average
usage of the electric appliances and the average time so that we can estimate the power usage
of those appliances. This audit are normally done by some equipment in order to measure the
accurate usage. The example of equipment are blower foors and infrared camera. Eventhough
this audit is not done by those equipment but still the average power of appliances were
recorded.

1.1 Objectives

i) Recognizing the power appliances and recording the power usage of the appliances.

ii) Identify increases and decreases in electricity bills for the past 6 months.

iii) Propose about some step in order to reduce the power usage of the appliances.
1.2 Types of Energy Audit.

Basically this audit can be done in several ways. Some institute approaches many way in
order to obtain the accurate audit of the appliances. This is the some ways audit is done
normally.

i) Benchmarking

Consisting of a whole building energy use analysis, based on the historic utility use and cost
and the comparison of the performances of the buildings to those of similar buildings.
Through this audit method buildings performance, whether good or poor, can be assessed at a
high level and provide broad evidence for more detailed energy audits.

ii) Walkthrough Audit

This involves a visit of the building in order to identify energy conservation measures and
energy saving opportunities. This involves analysis of utility billing information, building
equipment and operating data.

iii) Detailed Audit

This energy audit consists of a detailed site walkover to identify the energy profile of the
building by completing surveys in great detail, detailed analysis of energy conservation
measures and energy saving opportunities.

iv) Investment-grade audit

This type of energy audit involved detailed analysis of capital intensive improvements and
require rigorous engineering analysis.
1.3. Overview of Energy Audit Procedures

An energy audit is an inspection survey and an analysis of energy flows for energy
conservation in a building. It may include a process or system to reduce the amount of energy
input into the system without negatively affecting the output. Means the users still have
maintain the comfortness in their house or building.

When the objective of study is an occupied building then reducing energy consumption while
maintaining or improving human comfort, health and safety are of primary concern. Beyond
simply identifying the sources of energy use, an energy audit seeks to prioritize the energy
uses according to the greatest to least cost effective opportunities for energy savings.

It may include a process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system
without negatively affecting the output., with the aim to suggest the best ways to improve
energy efficiency in heating, enliven the atmosphere and cooling the house.

An energy audit of a home may involve recording various characteristics of the building
including the walls, ceilings, floors, doors, windows, and skylights in the entire house.

A home energy audit may include a written report estimating energy use given local climate
criteria, thermostat settings, roof overhang, and solar orientation. This could show energy use
for a given time period, say a year, and the impact of any suggested improvements per year.

Some of the greatest effects on energy use are user behavior, number of users in the home,
climate, and age of the home. Therefore, we have selected a home for the project audit and
look at all the electrical items in the house.

A home energy audit is often used to identify cost effective ways to improve the comfort and
efficiency of buildings.
2.0 PREPARATION FOR THE ELECTRICITY ENERGY AUDIT

2.1. Defining the Audit Criteria

Set of policies, procedures or requirements. We have chosen a house by getting electricity

bills for the last 6 months. We will identify the types of electrical appliances used in the
house whether in accordance with Malaysia standards in terms of voltage and environmental
non-polluting products. There are the criterias:

• Based on up-to date, measured data on energy consumption and load profiles

• Detailed review of the energy consumption profile

• Give reliable picture of energy performance and identification of opportunities to save

energy

• Shall allow detailed calculations for proposed measures

• Data used in audits shall be storable for historical analyzes and tracking performance
2.2 Defining the Audit Scope

The research that we selected is an electrical Energy Audit. Energy is a fundamental source
of development. Consumers need to be aware of the importance in energy use. As a
consumer, it is important to be aware of the level and the amount of daily electricity
consumption before starting energy savings. Therefore, we will conduct an energy audit in a
house.

Our research took place in a house at No 21, Kampung Teluk Tui, Mukim Jerlun, Kedah. We
will identify the electrical appliances in the house. In addition,we will be collecting their
electricity bill within 6 months to be able in measuring the use of electrical tape for each
appliances.Besides that, we will also identify the duration, power and the types of electrical
appliances which they use a lot within their house

Through this method, consumers can reduce their electricity consumption regularly and not
compromise with their comfort zone because they will know which appliances use more
electricity and can decide time limit to each appliances. It is aim in decreasing the
consumption of electricity among Malaysian community in a long run.
2.3 Selecting of Electricity Energy Audit Team

The selection of the energy auditing team and energy auditors is a key decision that
can help residents understand the whole picture of their home's electricity energy use. The
energy audit team can provide support for conducting energy audits in resident home. Energy
auditors can be accredited separately for electrical and thermal energy audits, Energy audits
can be divided into two categories, taking into account the kind of audited systems and
equipment: Electrical Energy Audits: for equipment or systems that produce, convert,
transfer, distribute, or consume or for a complete energy audit of a site, according to their
qualifications.

The audit team leader determines the roles and responsibilities of the individual audit
team members. If an outside consultant is chosen to conduct the audit, most of the audit team
members will also be from outside of the plant (the staff of the consultant company
conducting the audit) augmented by some staff within the plant and in the areas that will be
audited that are assigned to cooperate with the energy auditors.
