ORPHANAGE CUM OLD AGE HOME

SYNOPSIS

Introduction
Childhood is a tender & delicate stage in the life span of a human being. At
this stage people require a great deal care, love & nurture in order to have a robust
set of values & morals. The required care, love & nurture are generally imparted to
us by our families, but there are many children not fortunate enough like we are.

Same as childhood, in old age people require an emotional support from their
young ones. As the changing trend of today where both male & female member of
family are working, old people find their own ways of getting refreshed, entertained
& involved by meeting other people.

But many of unfortunate elders end up in old age home same as children
ending up in orphanage. The mutual emotional requirement of both the group can
be catered through a home; for both orphans & elders. The elderly would act as
parents for the orphans while the children would be a source of happiness.

Aim
To design an old age cum orphanage home to meet needs of both the
groups i.e. orphans & elders by understanding mutual requirement of these user
group.

Objective
 To provide spaces which are physically comfortable, safe and accessible to
establish mutual relationship between two groups.
 Designing as per barrier free architecture guidelines as both the user groups
needs special physical arrangements
 Encouraging outside people to interact with people inside home through
community activities.
 To understand the physical aspects of children & elderly and incorporating
biophilic design in architecture to enhance critical experience of users
(children, elders, staff and visitors) using nature as a tool.
Scope & Limitation
 The project will encourage both groups to interact with each other through
provided setting at the same time limiting their level of involvement as they
both need privacy & personal space.
 Study of how children & elders behave in various natural and manmade
environments will support thesis work while designing spaces in details.
 Project will act as an enhancement in architecture of orphanage & old age
home along with blending both these typologies with sustainable and
environment friendly intervention to reduce impact on planet.
