Advantages of online booking

When you think about the workflow of your customer service staff, it’s plain to see that an
time is taken up handling phone calls from people looking to book, explaining options to
customer and managing schedules.

The demands of a phone based system require a member of your staff is constantly available
to handle booking. You might not consider this a problem with customer

service staff on hand, but consider the man hours which could be realsed by moving to an
online booking platform.

Some charge you per transaction, whilst others charge a flat monthly fee, so you will always
know how much you’re paying. Custom made online booking platforms will charge you a
lump sum up front, as well as recurring costs for bug fixes and support .

Ultimately, the benefits of an online system for your business far outweigh the small
monthly cost it would take to implement one, but the notion of cost is something you’re going
to have to come to terms with .

Disadvantages of online booking

6
One of the major disadvantage of online booking system is that for all their postivies, they do
come at a monetary cost don’t believe the promises of free online booking systems

Some charge you per transactions, whilst others charge a flat monthly fee so you will always
know how much you’re paying. Custom made online booking platforms will charge you a
lump sum , as well as recurring costs for bug fixes and support .

Because booking live is fully automated, if there’s space available for a given data, your
customer can choose their options, pick a date and time, pay and receive an email confirmation

without any human interaction on your end – freeing up your staff do more valuable things
with their time . That’s huge advantage of online booking platforms, and one which can greatly
benefit your business

This post guide enterpreneur or app developer about how one can make or state the process of
building an online cab booking system , an app like uber. however the app developer needs to
develop two formats for the app uber one for travelers or customers , and another one for
drivers . The following aspects of taxi booking app development and features of a taxi
aggregation app are described here in below.

In recent years ,real time ridesharing has become a popular way for many city dwellers to get
from one place to another by paying ride sourcing drivers to transport them in much the same
way they would outsource to a taxi services involve private using their own vehicles. The entire
process is made possible through the use of modern technology like GPS Navigation ,social
networks, and smartphones, and company networks that use algorithmic Solutions to match
drivers to passengers.
As might be expected, the traditional taxi industry has been generally hostile to ride sharing
companies like uber, since the new networking services is seen as a major threat to taxi service
viability in many areas of the world. Some critics also concerns such as a. Lack of regulations
and licensure, poor training, and questionable insurance coverage as reason to view the new
services with suspicious. In some areas of the world most notably, European cities like Berlin
uber has been completely banned. safety in often cited as a major cause for concern for.
this skepticism, and that raises an important questions. just how safe are you with your uber
driver ?

7
Uber At A Glance

It important to understand just how popular uber has become in the areas it services. As 2015
drew to a close, the company announced that it had reached the 1 billion ride mark was provided
on Dec 24,2015 and transported a driver in London from London fields to Hoxton. The
milestone – setting passengers was treated to a year’s worth of free uber rides in celebration, and
the company also made a donation to one of the local area non – profits.
While that is truly a feel good story for uber and technology fans everywhere, It is also Just one
part of a larger story of success for the company. uber has been growing tremendously over the
last year and a half consider these facts.

1.As of September 2015, uber reported had roughly 3,27,000 individual drivers actively offering
rides across the nation. its important to note that this number is defined in terms of drivers who
provided at least four rides during each month.

2.Because that number represented a doubling of the 1,60,000 drivers reportedly in action at the
end of 2014, more than half of all uber drivers on the road today have been providing these rides
for less than 2 years.
3.Almost one fifth of all ride sharing had been driving for less than 2 months.
4. Uber has expanded to more than 400 cities in 70 countries and offers more than 1 million rides
each day to its customers around the world.
5.More than 8 million users relied on the uber app end of 2014, and when the company turned over
customer information in response to regulatory requests a few months ago, those records included
details for roughly 12 million uber

History of Uber

15
Uber was founded in 2009 as uber cab by Garrett Camp ,a computer programmer and
the co-op founder of stumble upon ,and Travis Kalanick ,who had sold his Red Swoosh startup
for 19 million in 2007.kalanick joined camp and gives him “full credit for the idea ’’ of Uber .
The name “Uber” is a reference to the common word uber ,meaning “topmost” or “super”,and
having its origins in the German word uber ,meaning “above”.
Five years ago,a company called uber cab a splash in San Francisco by letting you hail a
car with your smartphone .since then, the company ,now know as uber ,has spread like wildfire
through the globe .uber currently operates in 58 countries and is valued at over 60 billion. But the
road hasn’t been easy .
While it’s valuation has continued to climb and it has attracted more and more
investors, uber has also fought rivals and regulators as it has transformed from a black car service
into a sprawling logistics company gunning for a future of self driving cars .It has confronted
threats from the taxi industry and even it’s own drivers.

16
It has also waged war against Didi Chuxing,it’s rival in gaining ride hailing dominance in
China.Aftet a prolonged and exorbitantly costly battle, however, uber China is now surrendering to
Didi in a 35 billion megamerger.
As uber's biggest battle yet comes to a close,we look back how the company got to where
it is today . see the insane and successful journey of Uber and it’s CEO,Travis Kalanick ,as it has
moved from an idea to a world wide phenomenon.

April 2007 Kalanick sells Red Swoosh ,a company he'd founded in 2001 ,to Akamai for 23
million and becomes a millionaire. He says he started Red Swoosh as a “revenge business”to turn
the 33 litigants who sued scour into customers.

December 2008 Kalanick first heard the idea for uber at the LeWeb technology conference .he
thinks of it as a way to lower the cost of a black car service using your phone.

March 2009 Uber is founded as a uber cab , a black car service. Garrett Camp ,Oscar Salazar
,and Conrad Whelan build the first version ,with Kalanick serving as a “ mega adviser .” Kalanick
has also said his tittle back then was “ chief incubator”.

June 2010 Uber launches in San Francisco. At the time ,it costs about 1.5 times as much as a cab,
but you could request a car in San Francisco by sending a text or pressing a button .it quickly
became a hit.

February 2011 Uber closes an 11 million series a funding round that values the company at 60
million. Benchmark leads the round ,and it’s partner bill Gurley joins Uber's board of directors.

December 2011 Uber begins to expand internationally ,starting with Paris, france. It also close
a 32 million series B funding round led by Menlo Ventures, Amazon's Jeff Bezos ,and Goldman
Sachs.

17
July 2012 Uber unveils its secret ,low cost “Uber X” project to the world. The service debuts at
35% less expensive than the original black cars , and features cars like the Prius and the Cadillac
Escalade. Kalanick declares ,'uber is ultimately a cross between lifestyle and logistics

August 2012 Lyft, which is considered by many to be Uber’s main competitor, launches in San
Francisco. The stage is set for the San Francisco price war that will follow.

August 2013 Uber moves into India and Africa ,and it closes a series C funding round that sees
an enormous 258 million investment from Google Ventures. This round values uber at 3.76 billion.

April 2014 Uber begins its Uber RUSH service, which brings bicycle delivery to Manhattan. The
service starts at 7-3 base fare and 4 per mile .

18
July 2014 Uber enters China after raising a 1.2 billion funding round at a 17 billion valuation in
June .China looks like it will eventually become uber’s biggest market ,and today five out of
Uber’s 10 largest cities are in China.

19
20
August 2014 uber starts it’s uber pool service, which lets you split the ride and costs with
another person who is riding a similar route. It’s the uber version of carpooling.

21
December 2014 Uber raises 600 million from Chinese search powerhouse Baidu. Baidu's
mobile search and maps app begin to integrate with uber , and it seems that uber is gearing up for
a fight with other prominent Chinese tech companies.

January 2015 Uber rolls out Uber CARGO in Hong Kong , which expands Uber’s service to
include all moving and delivery needs. Uber calls it a way for your goods to “travel like a VIP”,
and this new feature continues Uber’s move in the direction of a logistics company .

22
March 2015 Uber begins the process of buying mapping startup deCarta, it’s first acquisition
perhaps to decrease it’s reliance on Google maps.

April 2015 Uber launches Uber EATS, an on demand food delivery service that brings meals to
your location in minutes. The service starts in four pilot cities: LA,Barcelona,Chicago, and New
york city. Now, it’s available in 23 markets in the U.S.

23
May 2015 uber poaches over 40 employees from Carnegie Mellon University to staff it’s
robotics search facility, which it opened in February to build self driving cars. Kalanick has
previous mused,'The reason uber could be expensive is because your're not just paying for the car
you're paying for the other dude in the car.’

June 2015 The California Labour commission rules that an uber driver is an employee, not a
Contractor. This calls Uber’s underlying business model into question. The decision comes after a
San Francisco driver, Barbara Ann Berwick, files a claim against uber.

24
September 2015 Uber’s China arm raises 1.2 billion to aid in its fight in the China market.
Uber’s biggest competitor, Didii kuaidi, responds by raising about 3 million.

October 2015 Uber officially launched its uber RUSH program, which had previously been in
pilot mode since April 2014.

January 2016 Uber raised another 2 billion in private equity funding to continue to help fund it’s
international expansion plans.

25
February 2016 Uber agreed to pay 28.5 million riders to settle a class action lawsuit surrounding
it’s advertisements. After the settkement, Uber is no longer allowed to use the terms “industry-
leading” or “ best in class” in reference to its background checks

Uber got a 200 million investment from Russia billionaire Mikhail Fridman.

May 2016 Uber and ride hailing competitor Lyft both exited Austin, Texas, after the city voters
backed a measure that would require fingerprint background checks for drivers.
Uber and Toyota Signed a memorandum of understanding to explore how the two
companies could together.

June 2016 Uber raised 3.5 billion from the Saudi Arabia public investment fund, Uber’s largest
investment from a single investor. Yasir AI Rumayyan, managing director of the public investment
fund, joined uber board.

26
Kalanick proclaimed that uber was profitable in hundreds of cities globally, but that money
was being reinvested in its war against Chinese rival Didi. The company said it’s losing 1 billion
each year in its fight against Didi.

July 2016 The company got another 1.15 billion cash infusion, this time in the form of a
leveraged loan. The company took advantage of low interest rates and secured a loan that was said
to “ support Uber’s global expansion and operations and invest in research and development and
engineering.”

27
Uber announced in mid July that it had completed its two billionth trip, just six months after
reaching one billion rides.
Uber ran into trouble in Hungary. The company was forced to pull out of the country after
government legislation for it to impossible for it to operate. The move followed months of protests
by taxi drivers.
A federal judge ruled that uber “engaged in fraudulent and arguably criminal conduct” when
it used an investigative firm to conduct a background check on a plaintiff in a lawsuit.
What’s Next : Uber remains the highest valued startup in the world. It continues to expand in Asia
and south America, develop driver less car technology, and raise billions. The company has yet to
go public Kalanick has said he plans to ensure an IPO happens “ as last as possible” but the Didi
deal could mean an IPO is now on the horizon.

Uber pool
In August 2014,after a beta testing phase in the San Francisco bay area uber launched uber
pool, a carpooling service. In November 2014 the service launched in Paris. In December 2104,

28
uber pool launched in New York city. In October 2015, uber pool launched in Washington,D.C.
in December 2015, uber pool launched in London. In June 2016, uber pool launched in Singapore.
In April 2018, uber pool launched in Sydney. In June 2018 launched in Melbourne.

Uber X
In July 2012, the company introduced UberX, a service option which allows people to drive
for uber using non luxury vehicles, subject to a background check, registration requirement, and
car standards. At first, rates were similar to those of taxis and were 35% cheaper than uber Black.
By early2913, the service was operating in 35 cities. Uber allowed drivers to use their personal
vehicles as part of Uber X starting in April 2013, rates were quickly lowered, which caused some
dissatisfaction among Uber Black and taxi driver, whose earnings decreased as a result of the
increased competition at lower rates.

Objectives
1 Main objective of Uber application is to provide a convenient, inexpensive and safe taxi
service.
2 Riders can use this app to request a ride by sharing their current location, and an uber driver
arrives to take riders to their destination.
3 Here, our motto is to provide taxi service easily to everyone.
4 Using the app everybody will be able to call their own ride within a few clicks.
5 All that have to do is open the app, set the pick up location and destination and the uber
driver near the pickup location will receive the request and reach to the pickup location.
6 Once the rider is matched with a driver, they will see drivers photo and name, expected
arrival time, Vehicle type and licence plate.
7 After your ride, riders will be able to rate their driver 1-5 stars.

SWOT
One of the most acclaimed startups, which showed the power of internet and has a really
inorganic growth is uber. uber is an app and is known as the company which has the largest
fleet of automobiles and yet, it does not own a single car by itself.

STRENGTHS in the SWOT Analysis of Uber

Brand Equity uber is a recognised brand globally with presence in over 50
countries. Uber has already surpassed Automobile giants like general motors,
ford and Honda on brand value parameter. With increasing internet

29
penetration and coming of age technology, uber is expected to grow rapidly
in the coming years. It is currently valued at over 68 billion. Due to the high
valuation of brand, uber attracts investors too.

Low fixed investment uber, being an aggregator does not require high fixed investment
and so it becomes easier for uber to add more cities to its network. It has expanded rapidly
because there is no fixed investment or infrastructure required.

WEAKNESSES
Highly dependent on manpower drivers are the face of the company and thus the
company image depends on the behaviour of drivers towards the customer. This is a highly
uncontrollable situation even though strict guidelines are provided to the drivers.

High dependent on internet uber is heavily dependent on internet connectivity to

expand and develop itself in developed countries. Thus, it is facing problems in developing
and emerging countries where internet is slow or poor.

30
Caters only to tech savvy individuals digital literacy in developing nations is slow
and hence technology based applications such as uber cater to those who are
technologically updated.

OPPORTUNITIES
Dissatisfaction with unorganized market customers are unsatisfied with the
unorganised cab market which presents an opportunity for uber to take advantage of. This
is one of the main reason for the success of Uber. Local cab drivers are known to be rude
do not comply.

Increasing internet penetration with government move to digital India number of

smartphones are increasing and technology based applications like uber can expand their
services to other cities and enlarge it’s footprint over the country.

Rising disposable income with rising disposable income customers are willing to
spend higher on convenience.

Alternate transport uber has launched uber chopper in various countries and can look
for other transport medium catering local needs. In india, uber can launch bus aggregator
system.

THREATS
Government regulations are unclear the primary point of disagreement between cab
aggregators and government regulators is about their legal status and whether they should
be treated as conventional taxi companies or as IT companies.

LOW Margins uber helps the drivers to get a high number of daily drivers to get a high
number of daily rides but it does not have a high profit margin for the drivers and thus they
can easily be swayed away.

UNIQUE ACHIEVEMENTS
Travis kalanick’s app enabled ride sharing app has seemingly conquered the world and
along the way raised a mountain of money. But the next five years may be a bumper ride
for uber than its first five
Uber has also raised a huge war chest at a valuation that values it past well known publications
companies including Twitter. So far in its existence, uber has raised 5.9 billion and it’s valuation
stands north of 50 billion.

31
HOSTILITY disliked by some governments in the united states and abroad, the company faces
major issues around how it will be regulated. Just this week in New York, a judge has decided to
haul city officials in for an explanation of why the company drivers are allowed to pick up fares
despite questions of legality. In France, the reaction has been even more pronounced , as the New
York, times magazine reports. And in china, drivers risk getting attacked by cabbies and others
Quartz report.

COMPETION uber is not the only game in town, though it’s the biggest. Competitors such as
Lyft, which has been founded by New York, financier Carl Icahn among others, could still overtake
it.

LAWSUITS uber and Lyft have both been sued, and will have to go to trail in a
pair of cases that could sink the whole so called sharing economy at issue is whether drivers for
the company claim, or employees. Handbook, an on demand cleaning service, faces a similar
lawsuit.
Uber has faced battles on the local front over the fact that it came into the Orlando market and
began operations without permits. On Dec 15th, Orlando city council approved an ordinance to
allow both uber and Lyft to operate legally in the city. That ordinance went into effect feb1.
The company is petitioning Tallahassee to see pass regulations it’s representatives find
favorable that died when the Florida House of representatives closed early this legislative session.
One dead bill provides an insurance framework. Another bill would override any city and
country rules, only allowing the state to regulate so called transportation network companies. The
special session is meant to pass a state budget, but lawmakers can introduce any issue.

FUTURE PLANS
Uber reveals plans for flying taxi service by 2023
Ride hailing company partners with NASA to design urban air traffic control system uber is
working hard to convince the aerospace world that it’s plan to launch a flying taxi service by 2023
is more than blue sky thinking.

32
At its uber elevate conference in LOS Angeles this week the company set out a detailed plan to
fill the skies with thousands of short range electric aircraft and announced a partnership with
NASA, the US aeronautics agency to model an urban air traffic control system.
Uber laid out its analysis of how a massive increase in aircraft manufacturing, to a scale not
witnessed since the second world war, would help drive down the cost of an aerial commute to the
same price as it’s land based carpooling service today.
To make this happen we have to do something that is basically completely unprecedented a real
time network of aerial vehicles that all operate together at a massive scale, said Eric Allison, who
recently joined uber as head of aviation programmes from kitty hawk, an air taxi start up backed
by Google co-founder Larry page. Taking to the skies, whether to deliver burgers via drone or
ferry commuters around in a four seater air taxi. We have to solve this transportation problem in
more than just two dimensions, he told attendees. We need this third dimension.
The San Francisco based technology company has claimed credit for galvanising a surge of
investment into the air taxi market since it held its first elevate event a year ago. We are in this for
the long term, we Khosrowshahi told the conference.
Passengers drones yours to fly away for 1,50,000 nonetheless, there is growing consensus that
these vehicles will be operated as a taxi service, shared between many people, rather than owned
and used only by a rich few, like helicopters or private jets are today.

FUNCTIONAL PROFILE

33
FINANCE
Uber has just revealed it’s fourth quarter financial results, which show that the
ride hailing company’s loss jumped 61% in 2017. The company list 4.5 billion last
year, up from 2.8 billion in 2016, according to figures first reported by the
information and confirmed by CNBC on Tuesday.

34
Expenses declined 5 % points, or 22%. Further reductions, beyond say 15%, may prove
increasingly difficult, as revenue growth slows.

35
PERSONAL
Functions of HR
1 consult with mangers and provide guidance and coaching when appropriate.
2 provide guidance and input on workforce planning, succession planning, compensation,
benchmarking, etc.
3 identify training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs.

Training and Development

1 uber has launched a new initiative in partnership with Maruti and national skill development
corporation (NSDC), for creating livelihood opportunities for one million people by 2018.
2 under uber SHAAN, the company provides access to skill development and driver training to
the unskilled. The initiative will also help trained drivers receive commercial licences, vehicle
financing and leasing solutions, he added

Performance Appraisal
1 uber takes feedback on drivers from customers. If feedback is to be effective, it needs to be
delivered and recorded in real time. Customers are asked to rate the drivers and the service
delivered by the drivers after their ride.

36
2 Uber’s three main performance metrics are the drivers rating, how many ride the driver accepts,
and how many times a driver cancels a ride.
3. Uber provides incentive in the form of business grants to the drivers for accomplishing a
particular target . For example a driver gets 6000BG for earnings of 2300.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Recruitment of office employees
1. preliminary Skype interview
2. lengthy and difficult, but fair ( at least 2 hrs)
3. Never ask brain teasers
4. Asks real world scenario
5. Focus mostly on creative and analytical tests

MARKETING

1 EARLY ADOPTER ADVOCCACY

Word of mouth marketing has been essential for Uber’s marketing strategy. the way the
company initially fostered it was by seeking out silicon valley movers and shakers and getting
them to advocate for the brand. While many techies are constantly looking for new products and
services that transform their ways of life, uber also took aim at them by sponsoring events, giving
time riders a free trail, and adopting a hyper local strategy that changes with each new city the
company enters.

2 REFERRALS
Early adopters have since been able to take advantage of Uber referral program to give friends
free rides while earnings credits themselves. This gives money program gave first timers a more
concrete reason to try the service. It’s been massively successful both for uber and for certain super
fans , one of whom earned over 50,000 in referrals credits. Drivers also get referral incentives,
thereby making the acquisition on both the customer and “ contractor” sides faster and easier.

3 A LOYALTY PROGRAM
Not many consumers know it, but uber marketing strategy has included a customer loyalty
program for at least about two years now. “ uber VIP” is exclusive to those who are actually loyal
customers who taken over over 100 uber rides. It seems like the main tangible benefit of the loyalty
program is that VIP have special access to the highest rated drivers however, the program also
signifies a commitment to and a gratitude for these returning customers.

4 STUNTS
Every time Uber launches a new special offer, groups of millennials around the world cheer.
Sometimes the service delivers kittens to offices and other times it lets passengers ride with famous
Musicians like Diplo or Matt and Kim. These exciting “ surprise and delight” tactics work to please
loyal customers, generate positive buzz and give uber a more fun and friendly image, which is
something it often lacks in comparison to its competitor Lyft.

5 PARTNERSHIPS
Uber has implemented a number of partnership to entice both first time and loyal customers to
take a ride. Certain capital one credit card holders can get discounts rides, Starwood hotels
preferred guest members can earn hotel points for every uber trip they take , and Spotify users can
link their profile to their uber account to play their music while they ride.

6 OMNI CHANNEL APPROACH

40
The most crucial aspect of Uber marketing strategy and it’s product itself is it seamless, multi
channel nature. In an excellent growth hackers post, Sean Ellis, Everette Taylor, and Dylan la com
note that “ uber set out to reimagine the entire experience to make it seem less across the board.

41
CHAPTER- 3
CONCEPTUAL PROFILE

42
A.Theoretical aspects of the concept
Trust and safety issues:
There have been cases where uber drivers have acted rude to passengers . Some cases where
uber drivers have outraged the modesty of female passengers have come to the limelight. This is a
big challenge for uber. Although the company takes all steps such as police verification of drivers
and their ID details but still such cases cannot be ruled out ccompleted

B. Applicationn of the concept in the company

 Go for less ownership model. Uber does not own any cab but still provides over 1 million
rides a day through its partner network.
 Choose an industry. Think about the most common problem it has. Find a solution and
disrupt the existing model through technological infrastructure. That is what uber did in
the cab industry.
 Treat your initial users as kings. They are really important for the growth of your business.
 Expand step by step. Do not add everything in yn your business model in the first go. Uber
started with cabs but now even has boats , helicopters, bikes and other means.
 Opportunity won’t come to you . You have to look for them uber created an opportunity
by offering discounted rides for particular events party. Venues and hence. Got its first
customers.
 Treat your workforce an important part of your business .uber calls it’s drivers as partners
and gives them a decent 80% of the total fare.

There is no doubt in the fact that uber has brought a revolution not just as a taxi company
but as a business model where business reach out to serve customers at their location. A
lot of startups have already made their app like uber and many others have made small
iterations to launch startups in various industry verticals.

CHAPTER-5

SUMMARY AND SUGGETION

Summary
Uber Technologies, Inc. is an American multinational ridesharing
company offering services that include peer-to-peer ridesharing, ride service
hailing, food delivery, and a micromobility system with electric bikes and scooters.
The company is based in San Francisco and has operations in over
785 metropolitan areas worldwide.[2] Its platforms can be accessed via its websites
and mobile apps.
As of 2019, Uber is estimated to have 110 million worldwide users[4] a 69% market
share in the United States for ride-sharing,[5] and a 25% market share for food
delivery.[6] Uber has been so prominent in the sharing economy that the changes in
industries as a result of it have been referred to as uberisation,[7][8][9] and many
startups have described their products as "Uber for X".[10][11][12]
As with other transportation network companies, Uber has been criticized for
unfair treatment of drivers, for disrupting the taxicab business, and for increasing
traffic congestion. The company has also been criticized for its aggressive strategy
in dealing with regulators and for other unlawful practices.
Finally after seeing all this customers has to know about uber cabs concepts and procedures

Suggestions
Starting up of a cab business is an easier one but maintaining of
the standard is the toughest, mainly for the business operator. It is
possible one and only with the aid of the technology. Generally,
taxi booking apps play an important role globally and it also
provides greater support for the business operators and also a
greater convenience to both of the customers and the drivers.
Moreover, traditional taxi businesses do not work anymore in this
digitized world.
