Current Event Analysis #3: Business

Mason, Jeff. “Trump Says Trade Deal with China Could Happen Sooner than People Think.”

There is an ongoing economic conflict between 2 superpower countries United States and China

since 2018. The result of the trade war has hurt business and put tons of pressure on the global

economy. Recently, U.S.President Donald Trump said that 2 countries are going to make a deal

to end nearly a 15-months trade war sooner than people think. Trump told reporters in New York

that “they want to make a deal very badly... It could happen sooner than you think”. He said that

China is trying to be nice but he won’t accept a “bad deal” in U.S.-China trade negotiations.

However, China seems to disagree with what Trump had said. Wang Yi, China’s foreign

minister and state councilor, said Beijing would not make concession though he hoped the trade

talks next month would bring positive results. The leaders of 2 countries want to reach an

agreement that rebalances the relationship between the two economic superpowers.

The U.S.President Donald Trump encouraged consumers to buy American by making imported

goods more expensive which affected heavily on the Chinese economy because the majority of

imported good to the U.S is from China. To hit back, China decided to raise the tariff from 5% to

25% on American goods. However, these actions from 2 countries hurt each other from business

to the consumers. It also leads to the instability of the stock market which brings economic
damages to multiples companies in 2 countries. The huge result of this war is the withdrawal of

American companies that have factories in China. When those companies withdraw from China,

it will push the price of goods higher and companies have to build new factories that cost tons of

money. Hopefully, they will reach an agreement in the future.
