Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

I would like to incorporate what the importance of these food groups are by having them do MyPlate activity.
During art I would like for students to make their own plate and that will allow them to cut or tear pictures
and glue it onto a plate to show me what their plate looks like when they eat dinner, lunch or breakfast. This
is also a great way for them to practice their fine motor skills by using scissors. The tool that I selected will
support all learners because it allows students to see what the questions are on the board. I will also read the
question aloud to the students so they can understand the text as some may not know how to read. I would
may lift the timer off some students can have the chance to answer or we may play a couple times so they
may learn the answers as we do it over and over. It is very important to do this type of lesson more than once
during the week so they will understand the importance of eating well.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Myplate activity includes getting sales ad to cut out foods that they eat during breakfast, lunch or dinner and
paste it on a plate.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: Students will cut out foods from the paper
and glue it on the plate. Students are able to choose what foods they eat during breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Students will also watch a video that is embedded into the Kahoot along with viewing my plate chart.
Teachers will watch students when using scissors and make sure they are cutting the paper. Teachers will and
set up for students to play Kahoot and teachers will read the questions. Children will work in pairs. The
materials that are needed is iPads, Plates, Scissors and Glue This activity will last 30 minutes with breaks in
between.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
1. How many food groups should you have on your plate?
2. What color are grapes?
3. What color is a slice wheat of bread?
4. What color are these carrots?
5. What color is the inside of this chicken?
6. What color is this glass of milk?
7. Should plate be colorful?
8. What color is this rice?
9. Which this video. What is your favorite food group?
10. It is important to drink water every day?
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☐ Yes ☐ No
☒ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? Kahoot gives the right answers so students know the correct answer. This information is
very important because it give students the chance to both learn and understand the importance of eating
healthy.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After the SRT activity I would like to repeat the activity one more time. I would transition into reading the
book named How Are You Peeling? By Saxton Freymann and Joosy Elfers which talks about feelings and
showcases the different types of foods.

How will the data be used?

The data that I would collect is what they know on the first time around on the second time around I want to
see what they learned. I would share the information with parents because I think it is important for them to
know that their child understand the foods, they should eat to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet. (This
may encourage the students and parents to want to eat healthier at home if parents know they understand
what foods are important.) I would not keep the classroom results anonymous and monitor their progress and
share later to the class once the felt like they have grasped the concepts.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
Trying to incorporate technology to reinforce the importance of healthy eating. From this activity I want my
students to be able to work with both technology and work with paper and scissors and use the two mediums
to see how important both learns are important. It gives students both learning mediums and works on fine
motor and emotional developmental skill. (Sharing iPads)
Reflective Practice: I would use this as an introductory activity. I want to do a pre and post assessment to see
what they know and how much they have learned. To extend this project I would love to make sure that
students understand the importance of eating healthy. I would as the director of the school if we could start
our own vegetable garden. Students will be responsible for planting and watering the garden. I would also like
for them to have journals so they can draw what they see and watch how plants grow. This will also show
them how important it is to give plates the right foods so they can grow big and strong. (Just like we should
when we eat the right foods.) In addition, I would like to take the students outside to pick vegetables and
maybe use it for school lunches.
