SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

I.Objective
Content Standard
Random Variables and Probability Distributions.

Performance standard
The learner is able to apply an appropriate random variable for a given real-life problem

( such as in decision making and games of chance ).

Learning Competencies
Solves problems involving mean and variance of probability distributions.

II.Subject Matter
A.Topic: Random Variables and Probability Distributions

B. K-12 Curriculum Guide and internet

C. Visual aids

III.Procedure
Motivation
Class, imagine that you have given a quiz by your teacher, 1-20.Do you think
You can determine your score after checking, with out seeing your result?
Presentation of the lesson
A.Activity
Solve problems involving mean of probability distributions.
Example: Grocery Items
The probabilities that a customer will buy 1,2,3,4, or 5 items in a grocery store
are 3/10,1/10,1/10,2/10, and 3/10, respectively. What is the average number of items
that a customer will buy?
STEPS
1.Construct the probability distribution for the random variable X representing the
number of items that the customer will buy.
2.Multiply the value of the random variable X by the corresponding probability.
3.Add the results obtained in step 2.
B.Analysis
Do you think you can solve problems involving mean of probability
distributions?
C.Abstraction
How can you solve problems involving mean of probability distributions?
D.Application
SET WORK
Surgery Patients
The probabilities that a surgeon operates on 3,4,5,6, or 7 patients in any day
are 0.15, 0.10, 0.20, 0.25, and 0.30, respectively.Find the average number of patients
that a surgeon operates on a day.

IV.EVALUATION
DIRECTION: Complete the table below and find the mean of the following probability
distribution.
1.

X P(X) X. P ( X )
1 1/7
6 1/7
11 3/7
16 1/7
21 1/7

2.

X P(X) X. P ( X )
3 0.15
6 0.35
8 0.40
10 0.10

V.Assignment
