CHAPTER 1
Introduction
For the past few year , there has been a distinctive foreign genre that catches the attention
of the Filipino music lover especially the teenagers not only in the music but also in drama
many Filipino people really love k-drama one of the famous k-drama are “ Descendent of the
sun” and “Legend of the blue sea”. So what is k-pop and k-drama? K-pop is an abbreviation
for the theme of Korean pop just like our music we called it OPM or “Original Pilipino
Music” and k-drama is Korean drama. Right now Filipino teenagers change of preference
from OPM songs to k-pop music. K-pop fever is everywhere and it has been a
breakthrough trough out in our country. The beginning of k-pop fever started around 2008
when majority of Korean dramas theme songs became popular. 2ne1, Big Bang, Wonder
Girls, 2PM, Girls Generation, Super Junior ,these are mainly the most popular k-pop group
which idolized by Filipino k-pop fanatics. Listening and loving Korean music is not bad
but there are good and bad things about listening to k-pop music. As the Korean invasion
continues, k-pop music brings benefits and bad effect to those teenagers who continuously
patronize.
K-pop and k-drama also affected the original way of Filipino teenagers. Their daily scheduled
consisted of listening to Korean music on their way to school through to their music player, and

watching Korean videos and drama on their laptops and computer. Fangirling 24/7 has been
their life style. The Korean entertainment industry is blooming right now. The global
audience for Korean music and Korean television is exploding across Asia and is even

The study aims to know the factors that affect the grade 7 students in General Licerio

HYPOTHESIS/ ASSUMPTIONS
The Korean drama and music are now entering in our daily life, Korean dramas and music
have an interesting story and fun music. Korean drama also preferred for teenagers and youths.
The teenagers love Korean Drama because they can watch their favorite actors or actresses.
Korean drama is the best popular drama in Asia, That’s why also here in our country it is popular

a study about K-pop was my fascination for it, the researcher firmly believes that through
this study, the Filipino teenage K-pop fans may gain understanding of their fandom and
how their consumption of k-pop media content affects their decisions and participation in
many activities in their lives. The study could encourage fans to be critical of the media’

The coverage of the study is the effect of k-drama and k-pop among grade 7 students
in General Licerio Geronimo Memorial National High School. The method that I be using is
Grounded Theory, because it aims to generate a theory from the data w/c are analyzed and
interpreted inductively. This is the result of through interview and observation.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
This study will be consisting of words that will be used throughout this research. These words
will describe and will help the readers to understand these words.
Tradition- is a belief or behavior passed down within a group or society with symbolic meaning
Culture- Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by
everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.
Vigil- a period of keeping awake during the time usually spent asleep, especially to keep watch
or pray.
Grade 7 students- They are the respondents, group of students that will answer the survey
questionnaires.
