1.2 Specifications
1.2.1 Expanded Instantaneous Bandwidth
Compared with the MRFU V1, the MRFU V2 expands the downlink instantaneous bandwidth
from 15 MHz to 20 MHz and the uplink instantaneous bandwidth from 25 MHz to 35 MHz
(for the 900 MHz MRFU) or 60 MHz (for the 1800 MHz MRFU). If the downlink inter-
module RF frequency hopping function is enabled, the downlink bandwidth can exceed 20
MHz (100 frequencies) and less than 25MHz. For details, see Table 1-1.
The BSC6900 provides the following commands for bandwidth modification:
1. MOD BTSBRDCAP: This command is a BSC-level command and is used to modify
bandwidth settings of a BTS under the BSC.
2. MOD BTSRXUBRD: This command is a board-level command and is used to modify
bandwidth settings of a board under the BSC. If this command is used, set the Configure
Check Threshold or Not parameter to YES and then set bandwidth parameters.
Setting rules: If the Configure Check Threshold or Not parameter is set to NO for the
MRFU, the MOD BTSBRDCAP command is used. If the Configure Check Threshold or
Not parameter is set to YES for the MRFU, the MOD BTSRXUBRD command is used.
You can query the RX and TX bandwidths supported on the BSC by running the LST
BTSBRDCAP command. The bandwidth specifications of the MRFU V1 are supported on
the BSC6900 by default, as shown in Figure 2.1.
After the MRFU V2 is added, the bandwidth setting policy varies with the type of the MRFU.
The TRX bandwidth setting function is a new function of the BSC6900. If the MRFU V2 is used under
the BSC6000, you do not need to set the TRX bandwidths.
Index in the MOD BTSBRDCAP command must correspond to Board Type. For details, see IStep
1Figure 2.1.
Step 2 Enter MOD BTSBRDCAP and change Forward Bandwidth to 200 and Receive
Bandwidth to 600 for all 900 MHz and 1800 MHz MRFUs/GRFUs.
The bandwidth ranges of many operators exceed the preceding ones. In this case, the downlink inter-
module RF frequency hopping function can be enabled to support the large bandwidth ranges. For
details, see section 1.3.2.
Step 5 Enter SET BTSPSUFP, and then select GSM Multi Carrier BTS Standard based on the
actual scenario, as shown in Figure 1.1.
For the standards in different scenarios, see Table 1-3 and Table 1-4.
Step 6 Enter ACT BTS to activate the BTS and complete the configuration of power capability, as
shown in Figure 1.1.
1. Table 1-3 lists the maximum power value (in the case of excessive configuration) that can be
configured for each TRX in different scenarios.
2. Table 1-4 lists the maximum power value (in the case of non excessive configuration) that can be
configured for each TRX in different scenarios.
3. The PA capability in the case of non excessive configuration refers to the maximum power supported
by a single module.
The power sharing and excessive configuration are defined as follows:
1. In single-PA power sharing mode, the TRXs in one MRFU share power.
2. In double-PA power sharing mode, the TRXs in two MRFUs share power. Before enabling the double-
PA power sharing function, you must configure inter-module power sharing. For details, see section
1.3.1 "Inter-Module Power Sharing."
3. Excessive configuration means that the static power configured for the TRX exceeds basic
specifications of power in the case of non excessive configuration.
Description of power configuration
1. When the power sharing function is disabled on the BSC, you are advised to configure power based
on the power specifications in the case of non excessive configuration (see Table 1-4).
2. When the power sharing function is enabled on the BSC, you are advised to configure power based on
the power specifications in the case of excessive configuration (see Table 1-3).

2.3 Software
2.3.1 Distinguishing the MRFU V2 from the MRFU V1
You can query the bar code of the MRFU on the BSC6000 LMT, BSC6900 LMT, M2000, or
SMT and then obtain the type of the MRFU by comparing the queried bar code with those in
Table 2-1 and Table 2-2.
You can query the electronic label of the MRFU on the BSC6000 LMT (MML), BSC6900
LMT, or M2000. In the electronic label of the MRFU V2, the information about V2 is
described. In the electronic label of the MRFU V1, however, no information about V1 or V2
is described.
The differences between the electronic label of the MRFU V1 and that of the MRFU V2 are as follows:
− Description in the electronic label of the MRFU V1: BTS3900/A,WD5MMRFU88B,Multi-Mode
Transceiver Unit,900M RX890-915MHz/TX935-960MHz
− Description in the electronic label of the MRFU V2: BTS3900/A,WD5MMRFU78B,V2, Multi-
Mode Transceiver Unit,900M RX890-915MHz/TX935-960MHz
In the electronic label of the MRFU V2, the information about V2 is added.
Querying the Bar Code of the MRFU on the BSC6000 LMT (GUI)
Step 1 On the BSC6000 LMT, choose BTS Maintenance > Query Board Bar Code, as shown in
Figure 1.1.
Figure 1.1 Querying the bar code on the BSC6000 LMT (1)
Step 2 In the displayed Query Board Bar Code dialog box, select the target site in the Site Type
box and the Candidate Sites, and then select the site in the Selected Sites box on the right, as
shown in Figure 1.1.
Figure 1.1 Querying the bar code on the BSC6000 LMT (2)
Step 3 Click OK. The corresponding bar code is displayed, as shown in Figure 1.1.
Figure 1.1 Querying the bar code on the BSC6000 LMT (3)
The eight digits beginning with the third one in the bar code is the BOM code of the module,
corresponding to that in section 2.1 "BOM Code and Name." If the bar code of the MRFU is
210231847100000000, the module can be identified as the MRFU V2 M900/E full band 35 MHz by
querying 02318471 in Table 2-1 and Table 2-2. In this way, you can distinguish the MRFU V2 from the
MRFU V1.
Querying the Electronic Label of the MRFU on the BSC6000 LMT (MML)
Step 1 On the BSC6000 LMT (MML), enter DSP ELABEL to query the electronic label of the
module, as shown in Figure 2-8.
Step 2 In the displayed Inventory Management dialog box, double-click the site to be queried.
Then, choose physical inventory > BTS cabinet > cabinet number > BTS board. Select the
target board to query the attributes of the board on the Attribute tab page on the right side, as
shown in Figure 2-11.
1. If Boardtype is WD5MMRFU78C, it indicates that the board is the MRFU V2 M900/E medium band
25 MHz. The BOM codes and names of the new and old MRFUs can be queried in the preceding ways.
For the BOM code and name of the module, see Table 2-1 and Table 2-2.
2. ManufacturerData describes the electronic label of the module, which contains the information
about V2.
BarCode in the electronic label indicates the bar code of the module. For the mapping between the bar
code and the module, see the preceding description on the BSC6000. Description in the electronic label
also describes the information about V1 or V2.
BarCode in the electronic label indicates the bar code of the module. For the mapping between the bar
code and the module, see the preceding description on the BSC6000. Description in the electronic label
also describes the information about V1 or V2.
Step 2 In the displayed Bar Code Query dialog box, click Start. The bar codes of all the modules in
the BTS are displayed, as shown in Figure 2-17.
You can query the bar code of the module and then obtain the type of the module based on the queried
bar code. For the mapping between the bar code and the module, see the preceding description on the
BSC6000.
If the MRFU V2 is replaced with the MRFU V1 and the power or bandwidth specification of
the MRFU V2 exceeds the configurable specification of the MRFU V1, a configuration
inconsistency alarm is generated.
