The Trial by Rebuttal will tentatively follow the format of a Parliamentary Debate.

Process of the Debate

• Of the 4 people chosen, people will be allocated team randomly as Government & Opposition. The
debate will start with Government’s opening statement
• A motion (topic) will be given a day prior to the debate for the candidates to prepare their speeches
• Teams should work together to formulate points and structure their speech as well decide which role
would be taken up by each member
• The debate will then commence in the following format-

Is to set the context of the debate, interpret the topic, lay
down key assumptions if any, present the main points on Government

which the government will be basing their argument

Will refute the Prime Minister’s speech as well as

4 min present the opposition’s main points Opposition

Will refute the Leader of Opposition’s argument and
further their own team’s stance. The Deputy PM should

ideally bring new points to the table

Will refute the Deputy Prime Minister’s argument and

Dy. Leader of further their own team’s stance. The Deputy Leader of
3 min Opposition
Opposition Opp. should ideally bring new points to the table

Will summarize all the points that were highlighted by

the government till now and why they still stand true.
Will also bring out fallacies in the opposition’s
Govt. Whip 4 min arguments. The Whip CANNOT BRING IN ANY NEW Government
POINTS. The Whip has to bring about extreme clarity
so as to enable judges to make the final call.

Will summarize all the points that were highlighted by

the opposition till now and why they still stand true. Will

Opposition Whip 4 min The Whip CANNOT BRING IN ANY NEW POINTS. The Opposition
Whip has to bring about extreme clarity so as to
