ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS INTEGRATION IN THE TEACHING-LEARNING PROCESS

A. RATIONALE

In line with the implementation of Republic Act No. 10533, or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, the Department of Education
(DepEd) issues the enclosed policy on The Learning Action Cell (LAC) as a K to 12 Basic Education Program School-Based Continuing Professional
Development Strategy for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning.

Through this policy, the DepEd fully supports the continuing professional development of its teaching personnel based on the principle
of lifelong learning and DepEd’s commitment to the development of teacher’s potential aimed towards their success in the profession. This
can be done through the school-based LAC, which primarily functions as professional learning community for teachers that will help them
improve practice and learner achievement.

San Nicolas National High School(SNNHS) recognizes that the quality of learning is greatly influenced by the quality of teaching.
Successful teaching is a result of the systematic use of appropriate strategies for delivering and assessing the learning objectives targeted for
each lesson. In view of this SNNHS conducted LAC session to serve its purpose.

Note: 1. If LAC Plan is prepared by a teacher or a department head, school head will also sign prepared by.
2. Accomplish in 3 copies (1 receiving copy, 1 approved copy for CID, 1 approved copy for SH)

B. OVERVIEW

This LAC plan focuses on honing teachers to become aware of what is happening in our environment. This will also guide them to create
possible actions and solutions to environmental problems especially in our society. This could be done through environmental integration in
our curriculum. Conscious of the fact that education is key to awareness and action to protect our dying Earth and the guaranteed rights of
our people to a balanced and healthful ecology, a law, Republic Act No. 9512, known as the “National Environmental Awareness and Education
Act of 2008”, required the integration of environmental education in all courses and in all academic institutions, whether formal or non-formal.

Section 3 of the law provides that “The Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Technical
Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in coordination with the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and other relevant agencies,
shall integrate environmental education in its school curricula at all levels, whether public or private, including in barangay daycare, preschool,
non-formal, technical vocational, professional level, indigenous learning and out-of-school youth courses or programs.” Thus, this LAC session
on Environmental Awareness Integration in the Teaching-Learning is in line with this mandate.

C. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the sessions, the participants are expected to:

1. acquire fundamental skills and knowledge about to the environment with its allied problems;

2. raise awareness on the different environmental protection and conservation programs and projects implemented in the school and
community;

3. obtain basic understanding on humanity’s critically responsible presence and role in solving environmental problems;

4. acquire values of concern on the environment and the motivation for actively participating in solving environmental problems; and

5. integrate environmental protection and conservation in all subject area.
