Part 1B Using a ruler, determine the angle of the knee joint (use white dots as reference points)

These are the measurements of the figure:

Partition Measurement
a. Acetabular femoral 2.6 cm
joint to knee joint
b. Knee joint to Talocrural 2.3 cm
joint
c. Acetabular femoral joint 3.9 cm
to Talocrural joint

The measurement of the acetabular femoral joint to the talocrural joint was formed since it was in line
with each other and thus creating a triangle in which trigonometric functions may be used to compute
for the angle being asked for. Since we measured three (3) sides of the said triangle, we may use the law
of cosines:

𝑐 2 = 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 − 2(𝑎)(𝑏) cos 𝐶
Substituting:

(3.9)2 = (2.6)2 + (2.3)2 − 2(2.6)(2.3) cos 𝐶

Computing:

15.21 = 6.76 + 5.29 − 11.96 cos 𝐶

11.96 cos 𝐶 = 6.76 + 5.29 − 15.21
6.76+5.29−15.21
cos 𝐶 = 11.96

In order to get the angle, the inverse of cosine will be used:

6.76 + 5.29 − 15.21
𝐶 = 𝑐𝑜𝑠 −1
11.96
𝐶 = 105.32𝑜
Therefore the angle created by the knee joint is 105.32o
