3.2. Setting Up PROFINET Communications in the FQ2-S

1.1.1. Network Setting

Set the IP address of the Sensor according to the network where the external devices,
such as PLCs, are connected.

[Sensor settings] – [Network] – [Ethernet]
Press [IP address setting] and
1 set [Fixed].

Set the IP address and subnet

2 mask according to the network
where the external devices are
connected.
Ex.
IP address: 192.168.250.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Important
To use PROFINET communications, do not automatically assign an IP address to the
FQ2-S. Set a specific IP address and do not change it.

1.1.2. Initial Setting for PROFINET Communications

[Sensor settings] – [Data output] – [Fieldbus data output]
Press [Communication type]
1 and set [PROFINET].

Set the PROFINET

2 communications parameters.
No. AST-142016 (8 / 14)

3.3. Setting Up the PROFINET Connection

To set up a PROFINET I/O connection between a FQ2-S and a Siemens controller, the FQ2
vision system must first be added to the controller’s hardware configuration, using the
Siemen’s HW Configuration tool.
Set the following procedure in a state which the connection between PC and a Siemens
controller is established.

3.3.1. Add a PROFINET IO nodes to the controller

Select the [SIMATIC 300] or

1 [SIMATIC 400] node, and then
double-click on the Hardware
node in the object list.
The HW Configuration tool will
2 now appear.
In order to add PROFINET IO
nodes to the controller, a
PROFINET IO system must be
present in the hardware
configuration diagram.

Ensure that the PROFINET IO

3 interface on the CPU has been
assigned a subnet address; to
verify this, double-click on the
PROFINET IO module on the
CPU.
If the PROFINET IO module’s
Networked status indicates
“No,” then click the [Properties]
button and add a new subnet.
Once the PROFINET IO
4 interface on the CPU has been
assigned a subnet, add a
PROFINET IO system to the
hardware configuration
diagram by right-clicking the
No. AST-142016 (9 / 14)

PROFINET IO module in the

PLC configuration and
selecting [Insert PROFINET IO
System].
If this is the first FQ2 vision
5 system to be added to the
PROFINET network, the FQ2
GSD file (provided by
OMRON) will need to be
installed. To install the FQ2
GSD file, follow these steps:
・ From the HW Config tool,
select [Options] > [Install
GSD Files] from the menu.
・ Press the [Browse] button
and select the GSD file.
・ Click the [Install] button to
install the hardware
description for the FQ-XXX
systems.
To add a FQ2 vision system to
6 a PROFINET network, browse
to the FQ2 node of the
Hardware Catalog
([PROFINET IO] > [Additional
Field Devices] > [Sensors] >
[FQ Series]), and then drag an
instance of the FQ2 vision
system into the PROFINET IO
System in the hardware
configuration.
No. AST-142016 (10 / 14)

Open the object property

7 window, and set the device
name and IP address to the
exact name and IP address of
the FQ2 vision system being
connected to.
Default of device name is
Model.
Ex.: FQ2-S30-13, etc.

The FQ2 vision system should

8 now be displayed as a device
on the PROFINET IO system.

9 project to the Siemens
controller.

3.3.2. Adjusting Reduction Ratios

Once the FQ2 vision system has been added to the PROFINET system in the HW
Config utility, the cyclic transfer rate can be adjusted by opening the properties window
of the PROFINET IO System.
Double-clicking on the
1 PROFINET IO System in the
hardware configuration
diagram.
Select the mode of update time
“Fixed update time”. And set
the cyclic update time to the
same value as you set for the
Refreshing task period in FQ2-
S.

Download the completed

2 project to the Siemens
controller.

3.3.3. Verify a proper I/O connection

After the project has been downloaded to the controller, cyclic data transfers will be initiated, at the
requested update time.

Open the HW Config tool online.

1 The FQ2 vision system should
show no errors, which indicates
that the I/O connection was
completed successfully.
No. AST-142016 (12 / 14)

From the HW Config tool, with the

2 FQ2 vision system selected, right-
click on the [Output Data] and
select [Monitor/Modify].

Change Input bit Q 0.1 from “false”

3 to “true”; this enables the TRG bit.

From the [Monitor/Modify] window

4 of the [Results Data] module, if the
Run conditionally checkbox is
checked for Monitor, the Status
Flag bit can be observed
changing state when the command
completes by repeating step 3.
