Iredell County Public Library

201 N Tradd Street
Statesville, NC 28677

Dear Hiring Committee,

I am writing to apply for any position within the Iredell County Public Library System in
which you feel I am best qualified for or is available at this time. I learned about possible
openings through both my supervisor at the Catawba County Public Library Newton, Siobhan
Loendorf, and a fellow classmate/friend Tiffany Sigmon. I am currently working on an
undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a concentration in
Creative Writing and a minor in Technical Professional Writing; I will be graduating this
December with both the academic standing and plans to attend graduate school for a degree in
Library and Information Studies in the future.
I am currently interning at the Catawba County Public Library-Newton Branch, gaining
experience that has given me a strong understanding of how libraries work and the skills to be a
successful employee. In this position, I have gained skills and understanding of circulation and
the software system used to filter material. As part of the internship, I have been tasked with not
only emptying the drop back, checking material in and out for both in person and over the phone
for patrons, but also with shelving and locating material for the Holds List and preparing them
for transfer. At this branch, I have spent time assisting patrons with reference, library material
and technical issues. Besides helping with the creation of book displays, I have been responsible
for sensitive information to make calls on lost material, fines and our outreach program. For the
remainder of my internship I will continue to work with circulation but have plans to spend time
in tech services to assist in servicing material and collection management; participate in
programs with our outreach program, library to go and work with References/Adult Services
department in creating and instructing my own program.
At my current position as an assistant weekend manager at My Brothers Bagel, I have
honed necessary customer service skills while learning to make the customer the priority in any
situation and ensuring that they leave our establishment satisfied with their experience. This job
has provided me the chance to improve my time management skills, to juggle multiple time
sensitive tasks at once while still being available to help other staff members. I have been
responsible for both opening and closing, delegating tasks to others and training new employees.
In college, my technical skills have been enhanced due to my classes. I have experience
with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint; certified in both. I am familiar with the functions of a
computer, such as printing and email. In my classes I have edited many documents, such as
manuals and unpublished novels, and I am familiar with many concepts of digital design.
I have a passion for not only libraries but what they do for the community and I look
forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Kacy Marie Steiger
