Narration of Weekly Experiences
On the supposed to be first day of our immersion but turns out to be an orientation day, I
did not know what department I would be choosing because both departments of doctors and
surgeons are not available and they are the only one that I really want in the medical field and I
haven’t chosen what I would like to be having as my premed because I’m still undecided
whether I want to undergo in the engineering or in the medical world. I asked my classmates
what they want and they all seem to be decided and they really know what they want, only after
did I asked my other classmate of what she wants and she answered occupational therapist and
she explained what it is did I find the department that seems to be fitting my interest because I
love both children and old people, after that, she then gone to the PT/OT department and so did I.
experience. Not only did I learn a lot of things that I can use in life but I can also say that the
journey of learning all those things is also enjoyable and fun. The experience I had was a
combination of being educated while having fun. The people we met are so friendly and full of
knowledge who welcomed us as if we are not mere students but one of them.
In the first day on department, after the introduction of ourselves and the staffs, the
people who holds and manages the department, a little introduction about what a
physical therapist is, what they do and how are they relevant in the medical world. We explored
the whole room while discussing to us the different modalities and instruments that we will most
likely to encounter in the following days. We were taught of how to use each of them and in

what circumstances they are needed. We were taught on how to take the blood pressure and vital
statistics. We are now knowledgeable of how to use the BP and its parts like the cuff, bladder,
sphygmomanometer etc. and the parts of a stethoscope. After that, on our first day in our
department also came our first quiz. We are all shocked that there is a quiz yet after the following
days it became our challenge to not forget the things we’ve learned and the quizzes helped us in
Our two weeks in the department was full of knowledge and trust. They make us
knowledgeable of the things we are not aware even exists and they also trust us fully letting us
interact with the patients and they trust our reading when we take the patient’s BP, pulse rate,
and respiratory rate. We learned different medical terms randomly and I hope we won’t forget
about them. We learned about different sickness, what they do to patients, and how they treat like
stroke, cerebral palsy, parkinson’s disease any many more. They opened our eyes on how
patients with these illnesses deal with their everyday life, like how they walk, and how their
paralyzed body part affects their living; especially in cerebral palsy. Some patients will also
inspire you on how they are so determined in healing and getting back to what they were before.
Most of them keep smiling even though you know that deep inside of them all they feel is pain.
They are so cheerful and they made me realize about how important hope is in life and where
will your determination take you. That is why in PT I did not only learn but I was also inspired
and woken up about the possibilities of the illness I could get when I get old,or have brain
injuries.

After the first week where we learned what we are supposed to learn and what our brains
can only handle is the week that I saw the everyday life of our department. There’s not much
going on and there’s not much to learn when you already know the basics of what is going on in
the everyday life of a physical therapist. There is no work to do when there is no patient, if there
is no patient you basically hold what you want to with your time even though it is only inside the
corners of that room. There are times when there are plenty of patients coming all at once and
there are also times where a day gets by and you only had three to five patients throughout the
day. And I think that would be the only downside of PT, even though you get paid whether there
are patients or not I think I would easily get bored when there are no patients around and I would
be left alone in the room waiting for someone who will come and will be needing my help.
All in all, I think being a physical therapist is a great job especially if you love and you
are willing to sacrifice your time and effort treating and making patients not exactly what they
were before but at least close to what they used to be. You can really be a
great help to others and can also save people. They may not save the life of a patient because
that’s the job of a doctor but they save people’s live after it was saved by the doctor. They save
them from living the miserable life they are going to get because of the accident or illness they
got. PT saves the muscle, limbs, and joints of the patients trying to get it work like how it used to
before. They are often mistaken to be people who massage patients but they are not because they
are so much more than that. It is a job that I think would be on my list of the courses I would like
to take someday when I have spare time after finishing the course that I’m already planning to
take. It is an inspiring job seeing people every day that seeks for your help and giving them the

hope of getting better soon. If ever I would change my mind in pursuing engineering and decided
That’s the kind of influence this immersion gave to me. I know what PTs are back then but they
never really interest me, unlike now. I even remember how undecided I am on what department
to choose but I’m really glad I chose PT and it is indeed a very mind blowing field.
