*What is the relevance of Cuban War in Philippine history during Rizal’s time? ( 5pts.

)
o Cuba and the Philippines were both former Spanish colonies. Upon intervention of the
United States, Spain gave Cuba independence and the Philippines become a new
possession of the United States via Treaty of Paris.
o During the peak of Cuban revolution, Rizal offered his services as a military doctor of
Spaniards to compromise with the shortage of physicians in the said country, as suggested
by Blumentritt. Consequently, Rizal was given a pass so that he can go to Manila, then to
Spain where its Minister of War will assign him to the Army of Operations in Cuba.
*What do you think is the prime motive or hidden motive of Rizal when he volunteers as a
medical missionary in Cuba? ( 5pts. )
o Rizal might have volunteered as a medical missionary in Cuba to travel again in Europe
and in Manila. He might have wanted to see his family again and be more inspired in
sacrificing his life for our country.
*If you were Rizal would you accept the offer of Singaporean gov’t. & his friends to rescue him
just in case they become successful? Why & why not? ( 5pts. )
o Yes. I might be able to serve the country better if I were still alive. However, if dying
means influencing and touching the hearts of many Filipinos to fight for our country
more than living and continuing to fight for them through writing, I’d consider death as a
better choice.
*Briefly discuss in bullet form (10 items) about some unknown facts on the advent of his
death based on A. Ocampo’s book. ( 10 pts. )
