ABSTRACT

The depency of human over the fossil energy likeas crude oil and natural gas had been
causing the scarcity and crisis enegy. One of the way to overcome these energy scarcity that
is utilizing the energy from a biomass waste. Biomass waste which had been producted
either from the agricultural activity or plantation are less utilized until inducing the
environmental pollution. The abundant availabilty biomass waste such as corncob and
tobacco stem are specifically located in Jember regency. The mechanism of biomass
utilization is transforming their form to be a briquette. The process of making briquette is
conducted by few stages such as biomass waste drying, carbonation, size reduction, sieving,
mxing the adhesive and pumping process. The purpose of this research is ascertaining the
type combination and the number of adhesive which has the best quality toward the produced
briquette. The used ingredient such as corncob and tobacco stem meawhile the type of used
adhesive were tapiocca flour, sago flour, molasses. The number of adhesive in each adhesive
i.e. 5 grams, 10 grams and 15 grams. The result of the research shown that the best trial
combination if briquette which utilized 5 grams of sago flour. This case proved that the
highest calorific value, the quite low of water content and the lowest of ash content are the
best composition.
