KULIM LAKE GARDEN/TAMAN TASIK PUTRA KULIM

The tourism and recreation center of kulim Lake Garden has become one of the tourism products for
the Kulim area. The lake is originally from a tin mining site since 1850 but has been transformed for
recreation and tourism purposes. Taman Tasik Putra is founded during 1888. It is located in the middle
of the city of Kulim. It has a total area of 50 acres and is part of a 14.0-acre water body area.

Its main function is to be a public lake park and water reservoir for the flood control of the city of
Kulim. Among recreational activities that can be done here are fishing, kayaking, aerobic exercise and
family sport.

IMPACT TO ENVIRONMENT

Proper lake function can ease the impact of floods and droughts by storing large amounts of water and
releasing it during shortages. Lakes also work to replenish groundwater, positively influence water
quality of downstream watercourses, and preserve the biodiversity and habitat of the area. When the
ecological puzzle pieces of a lake come together and the lake can work as it should, the big picture is
clear, we all stand to benefit from this important resource.

Lakes can provide us with prime opportunities for recreation, tourism, and cottage or residential
living. They are also respected by many people for their historical and traditional values and may be a
source of raw drinking water for a municipality. Lakes can also be used as a water supply for industry
and an irrigation source for agriculture.

So, you see lakes are more than just a simple body of water used by many people to enjoy recreational
activities. They are important ecosystems that, when respected and cared for, can sustain a healthy
balance of aquatic life, provide us with much enjoyment, and help support our socio-economic needs. It
is our responsibility to continue to practice stewardship in our lakes by keeping them healthy for all,
especially those who depend on them.

CONSTRUCTION

Based on our observation, the lake is a good asset to the people of kulim. The preservation of lake and
facilities is under management of municipal council of kulim. They prepared skilled workers among local
civil engineers through the partnership with certain company to ensure facility and development of the
lake is maintained. Unfortunately, the environment and the facilities here does not meet the standard.
To ensure that the lake is always protected from flood issue, pollution and so on, the preservations must
be taken into account and implemented consistently.

Lake construction may seem to be as simple as digging a hole in the ground but there is more skill and
planning required than one would first think. Careful preparation prior to a lake construction or lake
development is the main aspect that need to be considered. The party responsible for preserving the
lake environment is municipal council of Kulim. Even though, the skills from civil engineers are essential
to ensure that these lake care measures are in control. To ensure that the lake is always protected from
flood issue, pollution and so on, the preservations must be taken into account and implemented
consistently.
