REFLECTION

Immersion? Few people simply describe it as OJT but even me can’t get the
idea behind why it is termed Immersion. Now that I already finished the 80 hours
Work Immersion, I fully understand now that it means that it’s like throwing
ourselves in the situation of others with deep involvement. I applied some classroom
lessons to real situations and experienced wearing hard hat, safety shoes and ear
plugs – for FREE.
It is a good opportunity for us to be assigned in the only one energy provider in
the Island of Busuanga-in the CIPC Coron.I love the idea of being hands on or having
a close-encounter on things. So the moment that our OJT Adviser announced our
deployment I got excited. Although it is only a short period Immersion we were also
required to submit various supporting papers just like a real job hunter requirements.
Through this program I learn to appreciate the importance of the theories I
learned in school even the stock knowledge that I already applied in this immersion.
I learn from the expert in the field by helping me walk through it in real life. Under
their guidance and explanations of how things work that no textbook can fully
explain. For me this is a big step that familiarize us in work-related conditions. Inside
the power plant we were able to interact with the employees that also teach us, help
us in some way, by sharing their knowledge and experiences. I learned to cooperate
and communicate with others regardless of their positions whether an employee or
co-trainee. During my immersion I already observed unprofessionalism but instead
of being affected I let it slide. I realized that every single person has their own
personality and we can’t please everbody. Be patient and always think positive.
Surround yourself with positive people because when you were always together with
negative people who complain every once in a while then you will be like them too.
Being able to experience the exposure to an industry enrich my skills in
communication. It also exposed me to good work habits, attitudes and respect inside
the workplace. I also learned the importance of punctuality because it can simply
describe that you are that serious in your work in the future.
It is only an 80-hour immersion and only happens every Friday of the week.
I am thankful that this Immersion Program is included in our K-12 curriculum
by letting us went through in a real industry-based setting. I learn so much things in
just a short while.
As a conclusion, my work immersion at the Calamian Islands Power
Corporation helped in developing my life skills and help me to make decision in my
career choice and let me see myself in the future as I graduate this coming school
year. It ignites my dream to pursue Mechanical Engineering in College.

WORK IMMERSION IN CALAMIAN ISLANDS POWER CORPORATION

Day 1: December 7, 2018
PARTS OF ENGINE
Today marks as the first day of our work immersion. I am full of excitement! I’m
considering it as an education outside the school premises,Amazing! Our
schedulewas 8:00 to 4:00 every Friday. It’s 5 o’clock in the morning and I have to
leave my boarding house. I’m in a hurry to be able to ride the van that will take us
to our destination # RoadtoImmersion2019 ( Sitio Lilibutin, Brgy. Guadalupe,
Coron) where our designated company located. From Salvacion where I lived which
is a 1 hour ride far from the town of Coron.
On the first day we were acoompanied by Ms Deverly Arceo, our OJT Adviser.
The company provided the hard hats, earplugs-FREEBIES.
Initially we were oriented with the rules and the Standard Operating procedure
(SOP) inside the power plant. We were introduced the Plant Manager, The
Assistant, The HR/ Safety Officer and to all the other staffs that would function as
our supervisor and adviser that will teach and guide us throughout the Immersion.
On the First Day, the Overall In-charge,in the powerplant, Mr. Leo Coton, discuss
the different parts of the engine. An overview but an abundant one. I learned a lot
of things specially about the engine. He also gave us a soft copy of the presentation
for us to review because he will gave us a test as an assessment if we learn
something. Mr. Rodio Ponce or we called him Sir Audie gave us a tour around the
plant.
During the lecture we were also accompanied by the 2 Trainees they have. That day
we were also informed that next Friday we don’t need to take our duty because they
will be having their Christmas Party.
We ate lunch in the company’s pantry. And leave the vicinity at 4:00 p.m.
Day 2 December 21, 2018
FUEL SYSTEM TRACING
1 down, 9 to go. It’s our second day in CIPC-Coron
Early in the morning I prepared my packed meals that can support our snacks and
lunch. Since the plant is located a few kilometers away from the town and the only
means of transportation was the company vehicle we were required to bring our
food that can last the whole day.
Today, one of the staffs discuss about the fuel system in line with that with that. We
do the line tracing where we locate the pipelines and equipments that belong in
that system. We are given a piece of paper with a diagram in it which serves as a
map.
I learned that the main equipment under the Fuel sytem are the HFO separator ,
Booster/feeder unit and the fuel oil unit. The system also includes a lot of deviices
such as gate valve,, storage tank, steel pipe, ball valve, buffer tank, sludge line, day
tank,, flow meter, HFO Cooler and many more. Line tracing is like tour but involves
a very keen observation specially if you really want to familiarize all the equipment
and devices involve in the system.
We were dismissed at 4 o’clock that afternoon. The company vehicle gave us a ride
back to the town proper where we’ll ride on our way home.
Day 3 December 28, 2018
COOLING SYSTEM TRACING
Today is the third day of our Immersion. I woke up early at around 5;00 A.M
prepared and geared up myself for a long day and picked up my food for my lunch.
The PUV left the terminal at 6 o’clock in the morning and arrived at Guadalupe
highway at seven. We need to walk for more than few kilometers to be at the power
plant because there is no tricycle or any vehicle passing by.
We were tasked to trace and learn about the cooling system. One of the boss guide
us and gave us overviews regarding the system like what are included and how it
works. In regerds to that, cooling system include devices like valves (gate valves,
ball valves, butterfly valve, throttle valve etc.),steel pipe, flexible hose, manometer
assembly, thermometer. The main equipment listed are water tank, expansion
vessel, radiator and preheater. Tracing makes us enjoy our day despite of the heat
from the sun while where having the tour. We are asked to put our earplugd when
entering the engine room because of the loud mechanical noise and exposed to this
for a long period would have an adverse effect to our hearing. At 3 o’clock in the
afternoon we were allowed to take a break for 15 minutes, coffee time.
Four o’clock is out time! Time to go home but instead of going home with my co
trainees. I went home to or house which is also located at Guadalupe.

Day 4 January 4, 2019

COOLING SYSTEM CONTINUATION
I am now at the fourth day, 6 more duties to go and were done with tha 10-day work
immersion. This day became a continuation of last Friday’s sytem which is the HT
and LT Cooling System. Since it is composed of 2, which is the High Temperature
and the Low Temperature and also functions a big role in the whole operation of the
power plant. We were allowed to ate our snacks at 10 in the morning for 15 minutes
together with the employees. Doing our immersion the fourth time around make us
used to the everyday routine of the employees. It was nice to experience my father’s
routine who also work here.
Another day in the office have passed, time to go home.

Day 5 January 11, 2019

COMPRESSED AIR
Just like the first day, I woke up early prepare for my duty. New day, new
learnings. We were taught about Compressed Air System and how it works. This
sytem includes the main equipment such as starting air unit, starting air bottle,
instrument air unit and instrument air bottle. It also include various types of valves
such as ball valves, non-return valve.
Day 6 January 18, 2019
LUBE OIL SEPARATOR
More than half way because it’s our 6th day in our immersion.
Today we were mentored by Sir Jeff Asuncion, the only one skilled in separator. He
taught us the basics and how the separator works. He taught and guide us in a cool
but full of knowledge way.

Day 7 January 25, 2019

OIL BATH FILTER
Today is day 7 and I am looking forward to it. The topic introduced today is about
oil bath filter, its functions and the role it plays in the whole operation. My
immersion and the plnt makes me want to pursue my dream in my post secondary
and to take an engineering diploma course. I love being with electrical and
mechanical equipments, the troubleshooting and solving problems not just
mathematically but also in real situations.
Day 8 February 1, 2019
ELECTRICITY
The 8th day of immersion made me realize the importance of electricity more. The
fundamentals and everything involved in it. Having a close encounter to the only
one provider of electricity in Busuanga made me better understand how electricity
works and its importance. I am also grateful that CIPC came to Calamian. I recall
from the stories of people living here that back then before Yolanda, having a
consistent power in this place is kind of difficult and the interval of time before the
previous provider can resume the power is too long, sometimes it last hours, days or
weeks. It also helps in the development of one place.
Day 9 February 8, 2019
DOCUMENTATION/ SAFETY HAZARD
Today, unlike any other Friday we travel together in one van going to the company
where we are doing our immersion for documentation purposes. As we arrived at
the highway of Guadalupe, we walk along the road altogether. Good thing I ate a
heavy breakfast. I am the one assigned in shooting videos. Gladly,we arrived in the
institution few minutes advanced before our time-in but full of sweat yet we enjoyed
that walk.
Today, Mr. Ponce taught us about safety, its importance and everything. He also
asked us to differentiate hazart between risks.
