Statement of Purpose

My name is Rashi, a permanent resident of Delhi, India. I am currently residing at Pitampura, New Delhi.
I belong to a nuclear family. My father is a Businessman, currently working in a packaging Business. My
mother owns a fashion business. My brother is pursuing bachelor of commerce from Curtin University,
Singapore. My education will be sponsored by my parents. My parents have always encouraged me to
chase my dreams. My parent’s gross annual income is 15 lakhs and they possess the financial capacity to
support my plans for higher education in Australia, my father has 51 lakhs in his savings account and my
mother has 34 lakhs.

In regards to my qualification, I completed my 12th Grade from Sanatan Dharam Public School in 2017
with 75% under Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). After the completion of my 12thstandard, I
immediately enrolled myself in Bachelor of Biomedical Science. From a very young age I started
developing keen interest in biology. At the school level though exposed to only major concepts of
biology, the terms like cell, genes, DNA, protein intrigued me a lot. When I was in 10th standard I
participated for the first time in a biomedical science fair and got awarded for the same. This built my
interest in the field of genetics and then I continued to participate in this fair every year. This contest
was based on the viruses that affect bacteria and after participating in this contest for three consecutive
years, it motivated me to pursue it further. I didn’t only focus on my academics but also in some co-
curricular activities such as singing and dancing. I had participated in various singing competitions like
classical singing and French singing competition and hold the certificates for the same. Along with these
I have also developed my skills in sports such as badminton, athletics, and basketball and also hold
certificates for the same.

In India, in the field of my interest there are lots of universities which offer the course and for the same I
gave all the required examinations to get into these universities like Dr. BR Ambedkar Centre of
Biomedical research, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied science and other government institutions and
in also some private reputed universities like SRMC college, Acharya Narendra Dev college and many
others. I have applied for the subjects like molecular medicine, neuroscience and genetics in these
universities. But unfortunately due to heavy competition in India and because of reservation system
where a large amount of seat go under reservation quota and only some seats come under general
quota, thus it is quite troublesome to get the seats registered in these universities. That is why I decided
to gain an international degree with the quality education provided by the Australian government. I also
looked at some countries like USA, UK and many more but the most economical in terms of living
expenses which is about 10 lakhs INR and tuition fees of about 20 lakhs INR was the Australia which
provides us with the standard education on an average cost. Also Australia is considered to be one of
the top countries for biomedical science and research work. As I researched on some universities in USA
like Cornell University, George Mason University, Colorado State University, University of Central Florida
and many more but these universities were more expensive in terms of tuition fees which is about 30
lakhs INR and living expenses of about. After that I researched on UK universities like Queen Mary
University of London, University of Lincoln, University of Surrey, De Montfort University etc. But in UK
the living expenses were on the top of the mountains which is about 32-35 lakhs INR and these
universities were also not having the exact course contents that I am interested in. Then when I
compared these universities of UK and USA with the Australian universities, I found Australia to be much
more competitive in terms of education and also Australian government provides more scholarships to
bright students irrespective of their country.
After a lot of research, brainstorming and web exercises, I shortlisted the Universities like University of
Western Australia , Monash , Deakin, Griffith, RMIT, Curtin University and La Trobe University. Among
these universities, I selected Western Australia located at Perth (Crawley), Western Australia. University
of Western Australia is one of the most influential and innovative universities across the globe. It is
recognized in the top 1% of universities in the world. It comes in the top 100 universities in the world. It
comes in the “group of 8 Universities “in Australia. Also this university contains all those subjects which I
wanted to study. This year it has been marked under top 10 universities for its 7 subjects who include
two of my subjects that are immunology and physiology. It’s also in top 5 Universities for biomedical
science (genetics). It’s creating new and modern facilities to all of its students and continually investing
in latest technology, spaces, and support services. It also offers a very good platform for students
regarding research with a lot of training opportunities. The campus life at Crawley is amazing. One can
have access to bookshops, labs, wireless network, banking, cafes, medical care, art galleries, swimming
pools, libraries and many other facilities. Also campus is nearby public transports thus making it easily
reachable from everywhere and a best place to study in Australia. University of Western Australia offers
an exciting collection of undergraduate degrees and I decided to study Biomedical Science. The
classrooms are equipped with technologically up to date learning and teaching equipment and
resources. The inviting factor is the scholarship which makes the fee affordable for that quality
education.

Apart from this, it is great that the university is located in Perth which is one of the best metropolitan
cities in the world and comes under top 10 best cities of the world providing the people with rich
cultural heritage, best livable condition as per its climate and many more attractions.

Biomedical science is an exciting course whose statistics helps scientists to make cure of those
implacable diseases like Ebola, Diabetes, Rubella, Cancer, Cardiovascular diseases etc., which is
detrimental to both young and mature life. Biomedical science will enable me to understand how the
human body functions in health and disease, which is essential for the developmental of new
treatments. This course requires a lot of dedication, hard work and research work and thus recognized
as a global career too. I am determined to pursue my further bachelor’s degree in this field because I
need quality education from a country like Australia. I am highly motivated to upgrade myself in the field
of biomedical science not only nationally but also internationally due to its research and practice based
teaching. The University of Western Australia courses offer more flexible professional programs. I
strongly believe that my undergraduate degree will acquire a broad knowledge in all aspects of medical
science.

In this course, I will have to study a total of 144 credit points and 18 study units which are structured as
follows: 4 level- 1 units; 6 level- 2 units; 8 level- 3 units in which points are divided according to different
are of specializations. I will be dealing with various subjects such as Neuroscience, Molecular medicine,
Cardiovascular, Renal and Respiratory biology, Infection and Immunity, Cellular physiology and
pharmacology and Experimental psychology. These subjects will prepare me for basic research work at
various reputed research centers and will help me to gain hands on experience so that they will enhance
my skills for my future goals. Since biomedical science is a worldwide recognized course, I could meet
known professors, scientists and doctors and enhance my skills related to the course. Professional
practice in biomedical science helps to gain theoretical as well as practical knowledge. This course is of 3
years which helps me to grab an opportunity to get real workplace experience. My annual fee would be
approximately 37800 AUD but I am getting scholarship of 5000 AUD per annum on full tuition fee. Post
completion of the course I will have various job prospects such as bioinstrumentation, medical imaging,
biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, drug design and delivery, medical equipment manufacturing and
supplies, lecturer, science writer, hospital and healthcare, academic and scientific research fellowship
pathways in universities, research institutes, can be employed in technical and scientific positions on
research projects funded by national health and MRC.

As we know, India is a developing country and we have huge potential in each and every sector in the
present day, be it any sector. I always dreamt of working with Indian Council of Medical Research,
National Institute of Virology, National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Regional Medical
Research Center, Neurobiology Research Center and many other prestigious companies. This degree
from Western Australia shall be the best program to achieve my dream. I shall be able to fit in with the
demand of the biomedical scientists of India with this degree and thus contribute to any organization
that I shall work for. Job prospects after my course completion will help to accomplish my future goals
and I will be able to get a job in an esteemed company with a position like junior research fellow or
senior research fellow or work directly under a global research head of an MNC. Further to my graduate
degree I would be that much capable to support my parents financially as they would be investing a lot
of money on my studies in Australia. After completion of my course I intend to come back to my home
country India. I am highly sure of it that the skills and knowledge that I will gain through the course at
University of Western Australia will be of great help for looking out job specific to my needs. As a person
who is graduated from India gets an average salary package of around 4-5 lakhs per annum but with an
international qualification along with some industry experience I will be expecting to my first job with a
salary package of around 7-8 lakhs per annum, which will further enhance my career and after 4-5 years
I will be able to cover all the investment that my parents will be doing in my education in Australia. I
researched for these salary packages on pay scale, naukri and various other websites.

I feel that Undergraduate study at University of Western Australia shall be the most logical extension of
my academic pursuits and a major step towards my career and achieve my objectives. I hope you find
my purpose definitive and I fit into your image of promising students. All the expenses regarding my
education fee, living expenses and other expenses can be easily covered by my parents. My parents
have always supported me as pillar to my decision and my career. It would be great pleasure and honor
for me if given an opportunity to ensure my Undergraduate studies at The University of Western
Australia, Perth at Crawley campus.
