BIAS IN THE MODELING INDUSTRY 2
Cameron Russell uses Ethos, Pathos, and Logos to her advantage of getting a message
across to the audience. She’s trying to convince that being a model isn’t very good and shouldn’t
try to be one. Due to the Industry bias in race, beauty, and appearance. All this is more like a
lottery and it’s very hard to obtain/work in. You are gonna get photos that don’t represent you on
Cameron Russell explains that she’s been in the modeling industry for 10 year.''My name
is Cameron Russell, and for the last little while, I've been a model. Actually, for 10 years.” We
see here that it established Ethos by proving that she’s a model and can be credible.
They don’t care about who you are on the inside but rather just use your appearance. “I
have never said on camera, is, "I am insecure."I'm insecure... have to think about what I look like
every day.” these pictures are not pictures of me. constructions...by a group of professionals.”
This causes insecurity because of her being a model also, being on edge how she looks like
everyday.
She looked at a study that about 4 percent of models that were hired were non-white due
to racial bias. “of the 677 models that were hired, only 27, or less than four percent, were
non-white.” This proves that the industry has a racial bias when it comes to modeling industry.
The truth in the modeling Industry It causes the models to become distressed with
themselves. This exposes their views on appearances and having a bias on race. Cameron Russel
tries to discourage people to become a model. They only use your appearance for their own
benefit. This makes the modeling business kinda hard to change due to the legacy.
