For communication clearances purposes the following distinctions Network Type Reference Drg
are made:
Telstra PSTN only ODM 5.9.19-20
 Telstra telephony only areas.
Telstra broadband only ODM 5.9.11-18
 Telstra broadband areas
These areas are approximately defined on the attached map. Telstra PSTN and broadband ODM 5.9.11-18

 Optus broadband areas. Optus broadband only ODM 5.9.11-18

These areas include any locations that ENERGEX reticulates ODM 5.9.11-18
electricity in South East Queensland. Telstra PSTN and Optus broadband ODM 5.9.19-20

 Combinations of the above. Telstra PSTN and broadband and ODM 5.9.11-18
Optus broadband

For Clearances between HV Earthing Systems (< 66 kV) and

Telstra Plant refer “Earthing” section. Note:

The following guidelines are based on Main Roads ‘Road Planning
and Design Manual, January 2002’ and ‘Guide to the Management
of Roadside Advertising, February 2002’.

Poles

Poles should be located outside ‘Clear Zones’. Clear Zones are

areas outwards from the edge/edgeline of the travelled way (road).

Clear Zone (CZ)

CZ = CZD + CA + SA

Where:
CZD (Clear Zone Distance) is read directly from Figure 2.

CA (Curve Adjustment) is read directly from Figure 3.

SA (Slope Adjustment)

SA = (Es x offset) + (Distance from Edgeline to

Slope Hinge Point)
Where:
Es (Slope Factor)

Es = 1 + s / 0.4 (slopes 1:4 to 1:2.5)

embankment, there is an increased likelihood that an errant vehicle
would reach the toe of the embankment and impact with the pole.
If the distance from the travelled way to the hinge point of the slope
