AIM: TO DESIGN 3 ELEMENT YAGI UDA ANTENNA AT 1400MHz frequency

THEORY:

YAGI UDA ANTENNA:

• We have designed an inverted YAGI UDA ANTENNA of a single director and reflector
and voltage source attached to centre of active element.
(1) Yagi antenna, is a directional antenna consisting of multiple parallel elements in a
line, usually half-wave dipoles made of metal rods. Yagi–Uda antennas consist of a single
driven element connected to the transmitter or receiver with a transmission line, and
additional "parasitic elements" which are not connected to the transmitter or receiver: a
so-called reflector and one or more directors.
(2) It was invented in 1926 by ShintaroUda of Tohoku Imperial University, Japan.
(3) There are many other types of radiation patterns in Yagi Uda antenna, which are
Isotropic antenna, omnidirectional antenna, Directional antenna, hemispherical antenna

PROCEDURE:

1. Yagiuda is designed with suitable parameters in CADFEKO software to get

frequency of 1400MHz and maximum gain possible below -10db.
2. We have varied lambda and distance between the director and reflector to set
maximum gain.
3. Simulation results are plotted in smith chart for voltage source and cartesian graph
for frequency and reflection co efficient graph.
4. For farfeild radiation pattern and polar graph is plotted.
5. We have fabricated the antenna and tested it in VNA device for frequency
,reflection coefficient and gain.

PARAMETERS:

FREQUENCY 1400MHz
Height of active element 9.6cm
spacing 0.17
Space between active and reflector 0.25*lam
• Height of reflector is constantly kept at 5% greater than the active element and the height of
director was 5% less than the previous element.
