CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

We all know that Civil Engineering course is such a difficult course as it apply

the both fundamental applications of Mathematics and Science to give students the competence

outside the real world. The field of Civil Engineering is a discipline that deals with a lot of

mathematical equations to build a future for the people and to have a better world. This course

will be the building block of the future.

Statement of the Problem

This study tends to determine the Assurance of 2CE students in taking the Civil

Engineering course in University of the East. Specifically, this study tends to answer the

following questions:

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

1. Gender

2. Are they sure about taking the Civil Engineering course?

3. Are there any factors that affect their decisions on taking CE course?

4. Does Civil Engineering course is their first choice?

Significance of the study

In this research, the researcher hopes that it can give the useful contribution of

knowledge and reference especially for distinguishing factors for the assurance of 2CE students

who are taking the Civil engineering course. The result of this study will be beneficial to the

students, school, and also to the future researchers.

1. Students
This research will be beneficial to them because it will help them to know if they are

ready to tackle Civil engineering course through their enough skills and knowledge.

2. Teachers

This research will be beneficial to the teachers because they will know if their students

were able to tackle the Civil engineering course in University of the East.

3. University
Universities who have students that are ready for tackling Civil engineering course were

beneficial because it will be recognized due to their curriculum and also, they were able to

compete with other institutions.

4. Future Researchers
The study will help and benefit the future researchers because it may be used as a

reference in conducting a new research. This will also serve as their cross-reference that will give

them a background or an overview about the topic.

Scope and Delimitation

The study was concerned with the assurance which focuses only in 2CE

students. In this research, the University of the East Elementary, Junior High

School, and the Senior High School except the 2CE students were not included in

the research. The objective of the study is to determine the The assurance of 2CE

students in taking the Civil engineering course. The goal of the research is to know

if the Grade 12 students were prepared to enter the opportunities during their

college life.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

Related Literature

Bodner,(2005) A number of studies have demonstrated a strong

relationship between students’ interests and abilities and their persistence in

engineering. It is therefore logical to assume that students who choose a major

which makes the best use of their skills and engages their interest, are more likely

to not only stay, but also thrive in the field of engineering which they choose.

Smith,(2009) Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline

that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and

naturally built environment, including works like bridges, roads, canals, dams and

buildings.

Related Studies

Glaucio,(2015) The degree program is designed to offer depth in the

course material considered essential for all civil engineers along with the flexibility

to select elective courses that meet students’ interests and expose them to the

breadth of civil engineering specialties.

Farlex,(2011)A consideration of their profile of abilities can help them

avoid mistakes, too. If they are high in physical ability and manual dexterity, but

below average in technical comprehension, reasoning, and space ability, it

probably would be unrealistic for them to look forward to a career in Engineering.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes the research methodology, locale, the research

instrument, the respondents of the study, and the data gathering procedure

Research Method

The researchers used the descriptive method of research to gather data

regarding to the Assurance of 2CE students in taking the Civil Engineering course

in University of the East.

A descriptive research is used to describe characteristics of a population or

phenomenon being studied. This research design is suitable in this research for it

can systematically present the facts on the characteristics of a given population of

interest objectively and accurately.

Descriptive research is a study designed to depict the participants in an

accurate way. The researchers employed the use of descriptive method, in order to

know the assurance of 2CE students in taking the Civil engineering course in the

University of the East Caloocan Campus accurately.

UNIVERSITY OF THE EAST – CALOOCAN

Instrument of the Study

The researchers will use specific data gathered by the respondents through

administering survey questionnaires to comprehend the understanding of the

respondents regarding to the Assurance of 2CE students in taking the Civil

Engineering course in University of the East.

The researchers mainly used the ‘’Yes or No’’ and Coding type of questions

for the respondents in order to raise the possible ideas that can be used in the study.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study were the 2CE students of University of the

East Caloocan Campus. There are 34 students of 2CE (21 boys and 13 girls).

CONCLUSION

Conclusion

Through the data that was gathered and analyzed, the researchers

proved that the students took Civil Engineering course have reached the level of

agreement of the 34 respondents from 2CE students that they are assured in taking

Civil Engineering as their chosen course.

Specifically, their basis is that they are assured and certain to one’s

own decisions and choices on taking the said course. Also, their interests, skills and

abilities are fit in the said course and greater number of respondents states that this

is their first choice that’s why they ended up studying Civil Engineering.

Moreover, the study about the 2CE students taking Civil Engineering course is

feasible and they are assured of what they had chosen which also signifies as their

future profession.
