Abstract

Collecting, summering & analyzing data are the main purposes of statistics. Statistics is
the only means for conducting any analytical or survey based work on any specific field.
Without the help of statistics it is not possible to forecast any situation. Stock exchange
of any country keeps a vital role on the economy of that country. Bangladesh stock
exchange is one of the effective government organizations to run the stock business. In
the stock market, fall & rise of price is a daily common phenomenon. Analyzing the data
of the stock market will definitely help to study as well as understand the market
situation of any sector as well as any company. It will help the new investors to choice
their suitable field. Also it will help the investors who all are already invested in the
sector. Mutual fund is one of the strong division of the total stock market. To build a
strong economic background for the country, appropriate & adequate research work
should be conducted. All those effective research work will help to give birth a poverty
free Bangladesh to new generation.

Introduction

Rise & fall in the stock market price is the common activities of Stock Exchange.
Everyday there is a fall or rise in price is available for most of the companies. As this
sector has a great contribution on the national economy, so any effective research work
can help the investors to plan accurately. Among all the sectors of stock market, mutual
fund is one of the significant sectors. Study on the daily stock price of mutual fund will
definitely help the investors of this sector to get optimum output from this sector & to
plan further.

Scope
This report will not cover all possible analysis of the respective sector. Only the daily
closing price of 10 companies under Mutual fund of one month (February’2010) will be
considered in the analysis. Thereby with the help of raw data comparative study will be
conducted biasing on the graph, mean, median, standard deviation & skewness.

Data Collection
We have collected data on daily basis for the month of February’2010 from one of the
renowned daily newspapers of the country. (The Daily Star). Due to government
holiday, all day’s data of a month could not be collected.

Observations:

1. Out of 10 companies, only 02 companies have positive skewness in the stock price.
2. Out of 08 ICB mutual funds, only 02 have positive skewness in the stock price
3. Except 6th ICB MF & AIMS 1st MF all companies have high range of price fluctuation
during the month of February.
4. Out of 10, Stock price has decreased for 08 Companies during the month of February.

Conclusion
Though this analysis is confined within a limited scope, it gives a clear picture of the
market condition of one of the significant sectors of stock market. Most of the
companies of the mutual fund are under high range price fluctuation condition, which
definitely help to determine the investing plan for any investor. That day is not far that
will help all the investor to take right decision if appropriate research work continues in
this country
