- What are the problems derived from drinking bottled water? Mention two
problems at least.

R/. If we drank bottled water, we would be contributing to the water pollution that bottled
water companies are causing; Besides, We would be affecting our health because all
the empty bottles that we throw at garbage would be in incinerators where they'll be
burned and generate toxic pollution for our environment.

- What is the difference between bottled water and drinking water?

R/. If we acquire bottled water, we must take into account that we would obtain a
product what does not correctly regulated, it's more expensive than tap water and the
last could be cleaner.

- Describe the process involved in manufacturing a plastic bottle.

R/. I’ll reduce this process in three steps: First, extract and produce petrol oil to make
plastic bottles; second, move the plastic bottles around of the world spending a lot
energy that could make to work a million of cars and third, distribute it at markets to
drink the water in two minutes and then throw it at garbage.

- What happens with the plastic bottles after we throw them away?

R/. Eighty percent end up in landfills, where they will sit for thousands of years, or in
incinerators, where they are burned releasing toxic pollution. The rest gets collected for
supposedly recycling. However, these recycled bottles finish in a plastic bottles
mountain in India.

- What solutions can be implemented to solve this problem?

R/. We can solve this problem if we don’t buy bottled water and join to campaigns that
fight for real solutions like demanding investment in clean tap water for all. We also
could lobby our city officials to bring back drinking fountains or work to arrest the
purchase of bottled water by our school, our organization or entire city.

- Is this problem common in your community? What does the community do to


deal with it?

R/. This problem is quite common in my community because people believe clean and
drinking water comes only in a bottle and when it is empty, people throw it at garbage.
However homeless persons collect these bottles to sell it and covering their expenses
- Will you drink bottled water again? Why, why not?

R/. No, because I have a tap water purifier and I feel that this water is clean.

- What will you do in the future to reduce the number of plastic bottles used in the
world?

R/. I´ll join to environmental campaigns that offer real solutions to our damages and I
will inculcate to my children to drink tap water as long as the government invest to clear
our taps.
