been re-assembled. Every degree, along with its instructions and associated texts, has been
included and assembled in chronological order of progression. The reader is guided along the
same path as many of Germany’s most enlightened men, as they were in the years immediately
prior to the French Revolution.
Much of this material has never been published – not even in the original German. Supplemental
texts are included to gain further historical insight into the Order. All documents have been
checked for accuracy with the archival sources and annotated where necessary. The editors’
introduction provides a detailed timeline of the development of the Illuminati system and
important clues for a better understanding.
The Secret School of Wisdom has received praise from professional historians, freemasons, and
general readers alike. Having become a long seller, it is now in its third printing. It has also been
