Dangerous goods classification VAT: SAP_EHS_1022_023
Definition
The dangerous goods classification assigns an identification number and risk potential to a material
in accordance with a dangerous goods regulation. The risk potential contains information on
dangerous goods letters and the packing group. The material can be assigned to the dangerous
goods classification directly, or via a real substance. The identification number is linked to a listed
substance, for which you maintain the relevant dangerous goods class (depending on the
regulation in question) in specification management and manage the resulting dangerous goods
data records in accordance with the risk potential.
Use
Generally, you define this value assignment type for a specification of the specification category
dangerous goods classification and the specification type dangerous goods classification. The
dangerous goods classification value assignment type is used to enter dangerous goods data
required by law, in accordance with the dangerous goods regulation, identification number, and
risk potential.
Procedure
Enter the required data. Note the following with regard to the individual tab pages:
o Value assignment
Enter the physical state during transportation.
o Transp. cl.
- Specify the risk potential, which consists of a combination of a dangerous goods letter and
a packing group.
The risk potential of the UN listed substance to be referenced is only valid in conjunction
with the dangerous goods class.

be used as a reference for a real substance, provided that you have specified the specification
types that can be used as sources for data transfer in the IMG activity Specify Specification Types
under Referencing Between Specification Types.
Definition

the IMG activity Specify Dangerous Goods Class and Classification Code.
You define the risk potential in the IMG activity Specify Risk Potential.
Notes
The classification code appears in table 3.3 (column 3b) in the restructured dangerous goods regulations ADR,
ADNR, RID, and IMDG. It is used to explain the dangerous goods properties of the UN-listed substances listed.
The exact meaning of the classification code is different depending on the dangerous goods class and can, for
example, be found at the following points in the ADR regulation:
If you want to map class 1 dangerous goods in the system, you can use the Classification code field to
specify the Compatibility group. The compatibility group is used in particular for mixed loading
determinations within class 1. In the ADR regulation, 13 compatibility groups are defined. For more
information, see Chapter 2.2.1.1.6.
