    Difference between EPC and IMS

    I want to know what is the difference between EPC (Evolved Packet Core) and IMS (IP
    Multimedia Subsytem).

    Evolved Packet Core is the Core Network of LTE, including MME and PGW that, substitute the
    SGSN and GGSN in 3G data core. IMS is services server, basically used to run VoIP over the
    data network or a carrier, with its SIP support.
    Evolved Packet Core (EPC) provides the infrastructure for messaging, authentication and
    mobility for various data services. IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) is an infrastructure that is
    independent of EPC but can utilize EPC to provide voice services.
